Critics Consensus

Humane's twisted psychological thrills are diverting enough in the moment to distract from its occasionally awkward attempts to balance sociopolitical commentary against high-concept horror.

michael d The concept of this movie is pretty good, government needs to reduce population so pays people to be euthanised. Rich guy invites family round to tell them he's enlisted to do this. All kinda makes sense and can go along with the general idea. The rest of the movie makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, the company that come and do it, the behaviour of the family, every action, further development of the original concept, decisions of everyone involved, nothing works. There is that single original concept, and thats it. But actually that single thing was kinda enough to keep watching and see how it plays out, to its inevitable dissatisfying ending. Nice idea. Ok to watch, could have been way better in every single way. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Roman S The first half of the movie starts off kind of boring and a bit political, so it's hard to get into it in the first 45 minutes. Later, it does get much better and leaves you more on the edge of your seat and gives you a twist ending. If you can get through the first half of this movie, you'll most likely enjoy the second. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/25 Full Review Tony O Political correctness run amok. In the first 20 minutes they give lectures on global warming, illegal immigrants, misinformation, and a slew of other social issues. It belongs on MSNBC or PBS. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Ryan C Decent movie. Despite what some say I wouldn't really classify this as a "horror" movie. It's obviously sci-fi themed about global warming finally beating us (in the near future) and destroying the ozone layer, essentially a commentary on overpopulation. So to help the country the US government asks people to "enlist" to be euthanized and the movie is centered around this one family going through a debacle with the department people who come over to do the procedures. Movie has dark humor elements thanks mostly to Enrico Colantoni and a dash of Jay Baruchel and some thriller moments, but it's definitely not "scary" or too gory. Now for some griping.. spoiler alert: Despite me enjoying the movie, mostly due to the decent runtime (movie doesn't waste a ton of time) which allowed me to stay focused and interested in what's going to happen, there seems to be a gaping plot hole around the halfway point. When the rest of the siblings originally united to team up against Noah, WHY didn't they just run out of the house and tell Bob they all voted and they pick Noah. Then the "guards" would go capture Noah and do the procedure on him. Other than Rachel's one off comment about "what if we provide a body", Bob had originally said, "if you don't pick, I'll pick for you," which to me indicates that if they took too long then he'd walk in and just point to someone and that's the one they'd tie down and euthanize (or just shoot?). So when the other siblings spending 20 minutes of the movie trying to kill each other it doesn't really make sense. But other than that foolishness, it was decent. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review Emily R It’s a really fun twist on an end of world type trope. It gives me similar vibes as the first purge movie. I’m shocked it isn’t rated higher! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/25 Full Review Courtney K i really liked this; it's a super interesting concept & everyone played their parts really well.
