Critics Consensus

Humane's twisted psychological thrills are diverting enough in the moment to distract from its occasionally awkward attempts to balance sociopolitical commentary against high-concept horror.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal Hardcore horror fans will get their dose of mayhem from Humane, though in its modest, tidily organized fashion the film might also get under the skin. Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Sergio Burstein Los Angeles Times Beyond the lack of subtlety of the message and the lack of depth of the characters, Cronenberg manages to make the proceedings entertaining and handles the actions well within this unique environment. S R Interesting story with excellent surprises. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Shanna H It had it's quirks but I thought it was quite interesting. Sebastian Chacon did real great as his role of Noah, he was definitely my favorite character. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/05/25 Full Review Audience Member Not sure how this film got so many outstanding reviews. It wasn’t the worst but definitely not the best. The acting was alright and the premise was unique but there was a glaring plot hole I couldn’t get over. The execution was a bit rushed (I usually like a tighter quick film) but some of the dark humour lands home. It’s alright for a watch if you have nothing else to do but it is far from a perfect film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/05/25 Full Review Jeepers C This movie was worth a watch. It had a original horror setting that delt with overpopulation and other world problems. The parents of a prominent family invite their children over for dinner. They procede to tell their children that they they have volunteered to be euthanized and thar the kids would get all the money. Well, mom decides to change her mind. They need a second body, which pits the rest of the family against each other. The horror begins at this point and the viewer has to watch how the rest of the movie plays out. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Paulo S For me, this movie fits into the 'it's so bad it's good' category. It's supposed to be a post-apocalyptic story, but it feels anything but that. The acting was mediocre, and the characters were unlikable. However, I still enjoyed this movie, and I found myself laughing at how bad it was. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/25 Full Review michael d The concept of this movie is pretty good, government needs to reduce population so pays people to be euthanised. Rich guy invites family round to tell them he's enlisted to do this. All kinda makes sense and can go along with the general idea. The rest of the movie makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, the company that come and do it, the behaviour of the family, every action, further development of the original concept, decisions of everyone involved, nothing works. There is that single original concept, and thats it. But actually that single thing was kinda enough to keep watching and see how it plays out, to its inevitable dissatisfying ending. Nice idea. Ok to watch, could have been way better in every single way. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
