Critics Consensus

While not as innovative as its title, Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person offers a dark-ish comedic take on a teen love story between misfits that renders a strangely sweet bite.

Cath Clarke Guardian All round the film has less bite than you’d expect. But it’s stylishly shot by first-timer Louis-Seize, a bit reminiscent of an early Jim Jarmusch movie with its deadpan sense of humour, never trying too hard, just a little bit too cool for school. Rated: 3/5 Oct 9, 2024 Full Review Lauren Coates Chicago Reader This French vampire dramedy may not be groundbreaking, but its strong leads and dry humor make it well worth watching. Jul 10, 2024 Full Review Rendy Jones RogerEbert.com A charming, dark, comedic romp for a new generation that is a welcoming new branch to the vampire cinema tree. Rated: 3/4 Jun 22, 2024 Full Review Leonardo Garcia Tsao La Jornada The idea of a reluctant vampire refusing to bite its victims isn't original... And certainly Louise-Seize and her co-writer Christine Doyon fail to come up with any new or clever variations on the premise... Kevin Hilarious and original! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/24 Full Review Anton Best movie of the year so far Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Claudio C Vampire humaniste cherche suicidaire consentant / Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (2023) A Cult-Movie Is Born (11,856 – 26 Jul 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In Canada, the vampire Sasha (Sara Montpetit) is fed by her family using blood bags since she does not have fangs and refuses to kill humans since she was a child. One day, her father Aurélien (Steve Laplante) and her mother Georgette (Sophie Cadieux), supported by her aunt Victorine (Marie Brassard), tell her that they will not supply blood for her anymore and she must move to the house of her cousin Denise (Noémie O'Farrell) to get her own food. Starved, she meets the suicidal teenager Paul (Félix-Antoine Bénard), who is bullied by his schoolmate Henry (Arnaud Vachon) and his friends, and Paul offers to help her with his blood. But Sasha grants him his last wish. “Vampire humaniste cherche suicidaire consentant”, a.k.a. “Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person” (2023), is a magnificent and original Canadian movie. The plot is very intelligent and funny from the beginning, but not that kind of comedy to make the viewer laugh. Sara Montpetit is great in the role of a emphatic vampire that refuses to kill humans to feed. Her solution in the end of the episode is adequate and the story is well resolved. In the end, a cult-movie is born. My vote is seven. Title (Brazil): “Vampira Humanista Procura Suicida Voluntário” (“Humanist Vampire Seeking Voluntary Suicidal Person”) My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Gabriel T It's a good movie and skillfully shot but, for me, the main theme seemed overused, the suicidal boy never looks to be someone who thinks in attempting against his own life, he actually changes idea in a very unnatural way, and the comedy don't work (especially JP as a comic relief) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Fernando P Style over Substance. Like an R-Rated Disney Channel Original Movie Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Audience Member So cute and funny. I really loved it.
