Tui B @t86547 Jan 27 Unfortunately this read more as a vlog than a documentary. I’m sad to say that you can tell this was directed by overseas europeans who didn’t even know the right questions to ask when creating this film overall. I’m quite gutted as the concept could have turned into a beautiful peace of NZ history. It could be a small, surface level introduction for foreigners on maori culture. I strongly feel it could’ve been *so* much more if the filmmakers had consulted maori nzers during the planning process. It was cool to hear an aborigines thoughts on our culture… their large amount of screen time is a massive "tell" that the film makers just wanted to just spend a river trip with generally indigenous people. And were not exploring the story of the whanganui river itself. Bummer. Documentaries seek to tell stories and answer questions. This should’ve just been a youtube vlog. See more Read all reviews
