Critics Consensus

I Feel Pretty has a charming star and the outline of a worthwhile comedy -- but unlike its suddenly confident central character, it suffers from a fundamental lack of conviction.

I Feel Pretty is presenting itself as the kind of film that reveals how ugly we are for laughing at body-related stereotypes, but then why make those your jokes? Go to Full Review

Is this stuff supposed to be funny? These scenes are cut and shot like they're jam-packed with laughs, but our audience was so quiet and uncomfortable, you'd think we were at a rep screening of 'Shoah.' Go to Full Review

Like a few too many films churned out of the predominantly male studio system and marketed to a female audience, you get a sense that, deep down, it doesn't have a particularly high opinion of women. Go to Full Review

“I Feel Pretty” centers the ordinary woman, gives her the delusion, adds a dash of The Devil Wears Prada, and depicts her personal aesthetic in the vein of Reese Witherspoon in “Legally Blonde.” The premise feels familiar but is subversive. Go to Full Review

“I Feel Pretty” is a movie with a message – a genuinely good message. And we are constantly getting whiffs of it throughout. Unfortunately it’s buried in a tonally challenged film with an glaring identity crisis. Go to Full Review

It's hard to imagine a more confused or flawed execution of a well-meaning message, except maybe Shallow Hal (2001). Go to Full Review

Stephen C @bob25009 1d Funny in 01 hour, 50 minutes, and 45 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The worldwide gross is $94,539,879.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See more M D Nov 28 I have avoided Amy Schumer, and with good reason. The acting was horrible. However, the movie had a nice message. A different actress might have made this a higher rated movie. See more Rocky M Nov 24 The movie opens with Renee, a woman in her mid 30s living in NY with low confidence and working in a shoebox office of a major cosmetics company. She attends a spin class where she suffers head trauma and this results in a "new Renee". One that is beautiful & confident - nothing stands in her way. She even gets the big girl job at her company. As her success grows at work, Renee is forced to look at herself in a metaphorical mirrorto realize who she is and always was. The film circles around themes of self worth, feminism, beauty industry standards, societal norms, and friendships. A motif of the film is Soul Cycle (the indoor cycle studio) where Renee's life is "transformed". Later on, Renee returns to the studio to recreate her accident and it's here she realizes her truth self worth. I feel pretty is a quintessential romcom for anyone looking for an upbeat film. Confidence ebbs and flows and is cyclical in life. -Rocky See more Sean F Nov 18 I saw a little clip of this movie on Instagram and I wanted to watch it even though it was seven years old. The reviews sucked but I thought it looked funny. I was belly laughing so much. I needed to give this five stars to balance out the reviews. It was hilarious and more than you can expect from most comedies. There was a sense of self empowerment and the fact that perception is reality. I loved this movie! See more Grant H @trig1007 Nov 8 It not funny. It was desperate to be funny. See more Hughe J Nov 5 I Feel Pretty was released in theatres in 2018 and stars Amy Schumer as an overweight woman with body issues who after falling on her head suddenly thinks she is beautiful; yes this is the plot. The rest of the movie is a lot of uncomfortable scenes with Schumer attempting to exploit her non existent good looks while people stare at her. The acting, mostly by Schumer, was not good, I didn't find anything in the movie even slightly amusing and the plot was just dumb. I think the title should have been changed to "I Feel Bored" which definitely described me watching this. This is just not a very good movie and I would avoid it. See more Read all reviews
