David Ansen Newsweek It's like a '30s screwball comedy that's gone to grad school...hits the ground running, flinging verbal and visual information at you with machine-gun velocity. Your mind is engaged and delighted. Mar 13, 2018 Full Review Will Self London Evening Standard While superficially I Heart Huckabees is a deranging experience, it ends up being deeply reassuring. Dec 20, 2017 Full Review Gavin Smith Film Comment Magazine I ♥ Huckabees is a rarity-a tremendously optimistic film for a truly dark time. Nov 19, 2013 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Here’s a film that, both in story and execution, is centered on the idea of finding order among chaos, and for viewers more accustomed to a tidy, straightforward narrative, the results can understandably seem like a helter-skelter experience. Rated: 4/4 Feb 22, 2023 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site The strength of I Heart Huckabees lies almost entirely in its vivacious, critical, slightly manic-and not unsympathetic-pictures of confused and struggling Americans. Mason M I think I Heart Huckabees is much smarter than most give it credit for and actually achieves what most movies try and sadly fail to do, make a point and make you think. This movie is pretty much bound to succeed in my book, it has one of the more incredible groups of people I've seen work on a film with David O Russell writing and directing, Job Brion on music (with one of his best scores, Peter Deming on photography, and a simply amazing ensemble cast. The cast is definitely a highlight. I'm always immensely happy to see Jason Schwartzman is the starring role, and Watts, Walburg, Hoffman, Law, and Huppert are all great. But this film is really great in the writing and filmmaking. I'm big on Philosophy so I really loved this film's take on the big opposing ideas it presents that make the film's conflict. And I was really impressed with how it should be scattered with the ensemble cast and crazy plots and conflicting ideas, but the film was always able to stay on path and on its point and never felt disjointed. This film is really just such a joy to watch. There's something in the world building or the characters or the dialogue that just made me love watching this so much. It's the first film I've seen in a while that I really got really immersed in and found myself in the world. The writing of this film really is where it shines though, in its dialogue and the general concept of the film and the intricacy of the plot. I really don't get at all why I Heart Huckabees has such a mixed reputation. It's such a fun film that's so packed with content actual substance, I'd go as far to say that it's a masterpiece. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/25 Full Review Torin F I HEART HUCKABEES is an absolutely masterful film that explores deep existential and spiritual themes with a distinctly quirky comedic flair that allows the characters' desperate search for meaning to be conveyed, explored, and resolved without becoming morose or maudlin. It holds up incredibly well 20 years later, and remains a uniquely brilliant work of art. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Edward W. I throw huckabees in the 🚮 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/06/25 Full Review thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, os personagens são mais ou menos, a história é fraca e desinteressante, as cenas são fracas, e o elenco quase nao ajuda em nada. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/25 Full Review Mike P This epic saga about ANOTHER eccentric family is a little too precious and cutesy; and a little too Wes Anderson for me. The backstage showdown between David O'Russell and Lilly Tomlin is actually much more scrumptious than the movie itself; especially since most of it was recorded and can be seen on YouTube. And actually, that's mostly what this is remembered for now; not the plot ...It's the day Lilly and David locked horns; and the other luminaries like Mark Whalberg, Isabelle Hubert and Dustin Hoffman just sat around staring at the whole thing; doing absolutely nothing....That's the REAL drama...And it's all on video. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Josh T Existential silliness. Great fun! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Read all reviews
