Thelma Adams RealClearLife It's like seeing a canary in a coal mine, Exhibit A for what's twisted in Hollywood culture and, in that regard, may be worth examining. Rated: 2/4 Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Richard Brody The New Yorker Louis C.K. doesn't approach his subject substantially; rather, he uses China's coming-of-age story as a wedge to endorse, with an obliviously unconditional smugness, the merits of relationships between older men and teen-age girls. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times I Love You, Daddy is a technically impressive film ... And all rendered meaningless by the unmistakable stench of creepiness, narcissism and hypocrisy permeating the story. Nov 16, 2017 Full Review Louisa Moore Screen Zealots Misogyny rears its ugly head throughout, an unpleasant riff on feminism and female empowerment that just plain makes me angry. Rated: 1/5 Dec 21, 2018 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com "I Love You Daddy" will go down in history as an ugly reminder of men in power who abuse and harass those [especially women] who come into their sphere of influence. There isn't anything funny about that. Rated: D Jan 27, 2018 Full Review Robert Roten Laramie Movie Scope This Woody Allen-like black and white comedy about a successful comedy writer's life suddenly falling apart is actually not a bad movie, but it will always be in the shadow of the sexual misconduct controversy that led to it's cancellation. Audience Member Drama with a twist of satire pokes fun at its own genre (it sort of reminds me of many of the hollywood dramas of the 80 90's). Slow pacing and below average direction fail to carry enough energy to make the more dramatic scenes hit with impact but the cast is great and the screenplay is interesting if a little creepy! If youre a fan of CK then this will be entertaining for you. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Alabama W Brilliant. Shame he was cancelled and this did not come to light. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Justin L I loved it. Different than most of Louis C.K. & Chloe Grace Moretz rolls. That's what makes the movie, so great. I just hope one day it gets the release it deserves. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Great writing and performances. My only critique would be to remove all but 3 of the “I love you daddy” lines. Way too repetitive and is distracting and not in a good way. I hope Louis CK releases this one day I would definitely buy it. He should play it in Cannes as well after his flapping controversy quiets down. And remember, just because Louis CK did some weird/gross stuff doesn’t mean he isn’t a funny writer and performer. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member In 2003, actress Meryl Streep gave the paedophile film director Roman Polanski a standing ovation at the Oscars for his award for Best Director. In 2017, comedian Louis CK - a multi-talented comedian, writer, director and actor, has this fine film shelved / denied release because he had consensual sexual interactions with adult women - behavior that didn't even involve physical contact. Now, much like I did 15 years ago with The Pianist, I was able to watch this film outside of the context of the predicament of it's writer / director / editor / producer / lead actor. And it's a wonderful movie - it's production and soundtrack are superb; it's a self-aware narrative about the difficulties and famous; the struggle of raising teenagers; and it's a study of human sexuality, how difficult it is to reconcile our morality with our desires, about boundaries; and it also appears to be a thinly-veiled study of Woody Allen, in the character of Leslie Goodwin, a film director in his 60's that likes 'young women' played wonderfully by John Malkovich. In fact, all the performances are top notch. CK has shown his incredible talent in his stand-up, and his TV shows by him, particularly "Horace & Pete" which is completely unique and unlike anything else I've ever seen. He's a true artist and I sincerely hope he can make a comeback. It's an understatement to say that it's a different Hollywood we are experiencing now, folks. A world where a YouTuber can make a video about a Simpsons character-one stereotype in a cast FULL of stereotypes-and get the voice artist of that character to apologise for his great talent despite 20 years of work, on a popular late night TV show. A world where famous dudes can have a bad date and get raked over the coals by online armies of hateful, bitter people. Has the pendulum swung too far as a result of the #metoo movement? You bet it has. Maybe it's social media echo chambers that are to blame. Maybe it's all this victim / oppression / intersectional feminist mindset on the left; the ideological opposite of the right wing identarians known as the Alt-Right. Now, I'm not here to say that Louis CK's behavior was beyond reproach; I am however saying I am however saying that much like Polanski, he is a very talented artist who has produced many works that are deserving of an audience, despite his sexual proclivities. Is enjoying this film an endorsement of sexual harassment? Of course not, no more than it was with The Pianist 15 years ago. Where was the moral indignation back then? Perhaps we could ask the talented and successful Meryl Streep ... or was she a victim of the Oppresive Patriarchy, too? We live in a world where the consensus media reality is a miasma of post-modern, virtue signalling pablum. I don't believe it will prosper for too long as the identity politicians have a tendency to be self-consuming. The sooner they eat their own tails and disappear, the better. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Dream cast of performers. This personal story from louis ck blunts against comedy to reveal that as always none cant compare to the greatest actor to walk this earth. Chloë Grace Moretz takes the salt lime and shoots to the stars again and again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
