Critics Consensus

Writer-director Mike Cahill remains an intriguingly ambitious talent, but with the uneven sci-fi drama I Origins, his reach exceeds his grasp.

There are far too many times when the story simply looses its footing and falls into another tedious direction, leaving some angles completely dangling. Go to Full Review

There is a great deal wrong with "I Origins," most noticeably the pacing. It is a slow burn, bordering on boring as it moves from one scene to the next. Go to Full Review

Filip B @Parsifal108 2d Very touching , i loved it ❤️ See more Nov 23 I loved it in fact. I thought it was touching and evoked a lot of emotion. I thought the characters were complex and well done as well as the relationships being realistic. Left me wondering what he wanted with the little girl as he took her from her home at the end and also raised the question of the ethics surrounding his search for her. The idea of reincarnation, science, ethics and love was especially confounding to me. Got to me a tad. See more Kalissa H @kali_416 Aug 3 Very interesting and I enjoyed the blending of genres. See more B M Aug 2 New idea haven't seen before, but needed something more. See more Ed B Jul 26 I found the movie compelling. The debate over God, and/or reincarnation was one thing, but I found the idea of an international eye registry disturbing. The movie made me think of the National Geographic Afghan girl. Worth a watch. See more Ava S Jun 19 I Origins attempts to bridge science and spirituality, but instead offers a dishonest, one-sided framing of the two, delivered by stereotypical and pseudo-intellectual characters.
