Alec B It has an air of authenticity to its depictions of Solanas, Warhol, Candy Darling, et al that you rarely get from these kinds of movies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Audience Member It's hard to 'shoot' someone famous and admire them at the same time. Based on the true story Lilli Taylor is Valerie Solanas. She's an upcoming writer with a background in psychology. Her biggest idol is Andy Warhol played by Jarred Harris. But when she gets to the city she turns to prostitution mostly cause of a result due to child abuse in her family. So she plans to turn that around working with Warhol. She believes in the female superiority complex, she's determined to change the system laying out the flaws with men. A book publisher pitches an idea to write a sexually explicit novel she wants Warhol to produce her play. From ambitious author to obsessive, delusional admirer Valerie embarks on a dangerous course of events. This was the 60s; many of the superstars were queer, including drag queens and transgender socialites. The concept of free love was steadily becoming a thing during these times, in contrast to the conservative views of the 50s and earlier. Queer people have always existed, but now it was becoming more visible. Warhol's art studio, known as The Factory, was a regular hangout for a variety of artists, performers, and other personalities. With Valerie she even presented her scum manifesto; the SCUM Manifesto was a critique of patriarchy by Solanas to vent her anger at how she was treated, how she grew up, and how she saw the world. Turns out she was struggling with mental illness and the more Warhol put off her play the more paranoid and betrayed she felt. Lilli Taylor is spectacular as this passionate yet unstable wannabe artist. It's very sad to see Valerie going off the deep end when all else fails. Jarred Harris plays Andy Warhol to a considerable degree. Being passionate can only go so far until you get completely brushed aside. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a really good, I believe harder to find movie. It is based in the 60's New York based on the woman who shot Any Warhol. Watch if you are a fan of that time period or Andy Warhol etc... interesting movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Lili Taylor's punchy performance as Valerie Solanas, the misogynistic homosexual feminist who assassinated the titular American artist mismatches this queerish comedy with shades of eccentricity reminiscent of Andy Warhol's Factory productions. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Valerie Solanas was nuts and yet her SCUM Manifesto still polarizes people. This film began life as a documentary and retains the immediacy of a doc. Lili Taylor is wonderful as Solanas. Captures the spirit of the times. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Valerie Solanas, feminist hero? or total maniac? Considering she tried to assassinate Andy Warhol, you tell me. Meet one of the angriest feminists in American history, in all of her glory, in a beautifully done film by American Psycho director Marry Harron. It's a journey of rejection, loathing, and pain. Lilli Taylor is great, and so is the rest of the cast. The script is top notch, and the editing is fabulous, and surprisingly exuberant. Biopics shine when they are brought to the screen with more panache than.. lets say an A&E documentary. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

She steals each and every scene she appears in and that’s most of them. May 31, 2022 Full Review Holly Woodlawn The Advocate Playing Valerie, Lili Taylor really goes to that crazy place where Valerie was. She's brilliant, and if she doesn't win an Academy Award, I'm going to shoot them! Apr 19, 2022 Full Review Jas Keimig The Stranger (Seattle, WA) Though it's still unclear to me why she was so fixated on Warhol, Solanas's points are incendiary, to say the least, but interesting to think about.
