Critics Consensus

Insipid and mirthless, I-Spy bares little resemblance to the TV series that inspired it.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media TV classic remade as a forgettable buddy movie. Oh yeah, and you can catch up on your sleep when Murphy and Wilson aren't sparring. Nov 8, 2019 Full Review Joel Siegel Good Morning America There's nothing groundbreaking, nothing important, nothing socially conscious here. Melissa M Some of the best parts of the movie are the comedy duo of Eddie Murphy & Owen Wilson. The British bad guys. The slapstick comedy. Even though it's a comedy. This movie definitely puts Owen Wilson into the action hero category. Eddie Murphy is on hyperspeed in this film. And it's LOL. Some of the downsides are some scenes are so dark it's hard to see what's going on. The rapid fire talking of both of the characters Kelly Robinson & Alex Scott in the film. You need subtitles to know what they're saying. They talk a mile a minute. Some of the action is so fast-paced it's hard to follow. Other than that it's a pretty good movie. Eddie Murphy & Owen Wilson make a good comedy team. They should make more movies together. It's got action, comedy, a little bit of romance. It's a fun film to watch. And it will have you laughing from beginning to end. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/09/25 Full Review spacemandc17 C Hmmm, Betty Thomas is credited as being the producer and director of this disaster… Well, based on this “travesty of a mockery of a travesty” (line taken from Woody Allen’s “Bananas”), she should be shot – or at least kept far away from the production or direction of any other movies unless you want to be assured that it will be a critical and box office bomb – as this film was… If it sounds like I’m angry and frustrated, I am… I am such a huge fan of the original TV series and was so looking forward to a movie version of it – and this is what resulted… Did I say Thomas should be shot? I think I mean more like “boiled in oil” or “impaled on a stake” – Damn It! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/25 Full Review Nanci P This is a movie that my family watches over and over again. Very quotable! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review alan g Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson in the same film. Enough said. Avoid. Eddie Mirthless as a boxer? That would be an Oscar winning performance. It is not. Owen Washout as a spy. Again see above. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/08/25 Full Review Will M This is the best movie ever made. Up there with films such as "Lord of The Rings" and "Shawshank Redemption". My Grandkid's Grandkids will tell their Grandkids about this movie. 5000 years from now, civilizations will look to this movie as the greatest work of the 21st century. Truly the Odyssey of our Generation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Christopher J its a decent movie some laughs and pretty good action Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
