Critics Consensus

Boring, predictable, and bereft of thrills or chills, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is exactly the kind of rehash that gives horror sequels a bad name.

Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: C Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Leonard Klady Variety This followup to last year's successful teens-in-jeopardy opus piles on the chills, thrills and body count. Apr 3, 2009 Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Our enjoyment is supposed to lie in making fun of the obvious red herrings, contrived opportunities to show cleavage, melodramatic dialogue, gullible characters, and inevitable to-be-continued ending. Jan 5, 2007 Full Review Stephen A. Russell Orion's Shoulder (Substack) Too dumb to function ... Sure, the body count increases, but I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is even less focused, almost entirely targeting random hotel employees. Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Deirdre Dolan National Post This year's follow-up is predictable but better than the original. Jul 15, 2025 Full Review Josh Winning Radio Times It works as the horror-movie equivalent of a college party: bigger, louder and more absurd than the original, and best enjoyed with your brain switched all the way off. Jonathan O I still not know why they screw up with this sequel. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Donald R I believe this is not as good as the original, however, it is a good follow-up/resolution to the original which is not just a carbon copy. The background story is told, and the connections are explained, even IF they are a bit convenient and predictable. The returning characters are played well, and the new characters are passable. The writer may be trying to make this a bit more like Scream, however, this sort of film seemed to be the popular type of horror film in the later 90's. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Jennifer C Great sequel. It was not repetitive with the same old "I hit a guy with my car again in this movie" plot but gave the movie new settings, new funny characters and actors. I thought the reveal was great while bringing back the original killer. Jack Black, Mekhi phipher, brandy all brought enjoyable characters to the movie. When it came out, I had chills seeing the killer walk up the hotel stairs after Julie. Truly an original sequel that didn't remake the original but kept the story flowing and entertaining. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review dierick m My Fav From The Whole Franchise Good Movie I Don’t understand the hate on this one cause it’s good and Amazing The Best of The Franchise if I am honest this movie on a resort it’s good and amazing I love it so much Karla and Julie Good Duo Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Joshua H. This movie does have some fun things about it but overall is kinda boring …I do have some nostalgia for it because I saw it in theaters back in 98 when I was 14 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Audience Member I was SO ready for Jack Black to die.
