What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite its impressive animation and the hilarious antics of the saber-toothed squirrel Scrat, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown comes up short on the storytelling front.

The storyline wanes towards the end and, from the kids' point of view, the whole package lacks momentum. Go to Full Review

Carlos Saldanha's mix of race-against-time action and eco-friendly propaganda is actually an improvement on the original, not least for giving its funniest character -- acorn-hunting rodent Scrat -- a lot more to do. Go to Full Review
Philip French Guardian 04/08/2006
In its untouched-by-human-hand way, it's not bad and, as in the first film, the funniest moments involve the half-rat, half-squirrel Scrat. Go to Full Review

Suffering from the same troubles as Dreamworks’ Madagascar series, the Ice Age movies over-modernize their productions with hip lingo, base humor, nonsensical references, and structures them around thin storytelling. Go to Full Review

I never bought in to this film and found myself regularly distracted by animation that seemed bland and boring. Go to Full Review

Miguel A @miguelito_13k 2d Sid fire king scene lives rent free in my head. See more America I @RT34958892 3d Directed by Carlos Saldanha and produced by Blue Sky Studios, Ice Age: The Meltdown is a vibrant computer-animated adventure that picks up with the unlikely trio—Manny the woolly mammoth, Sid the sloth, and Diego the saber-toothed tiger—as they navigate the perks and perils of a rapidly warming landscape. The stakes are raised significantly when they realize that a massive glacial dam is on the verge of collapsing, threatening to flood their entire valley and put an end to their ice-capped existence. Along their journey to safety, the group gains some eccentric new companions: a mammoth named Ellie who hilariously believes she is an opossum, and her two reckless, prank-loving opossum "brothers," Crash and Eddie. Of course, no expedition in this prehistoric era would be complete without the legendary, hapless squirrel Scrat, whose obsessive and comical pursuit of his elusive acorn provides a side-splitting backdrop to the main mission of survival. See more Ciaran S @TrainMultifan26 5d This film may have issues but it's still an enjoyable sequel overall, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown is the only good sequel to the Ice Age franchise with a decently good story, likeable characters, fantastic animation, heartwarming moments on top of some of the best comedy I've seen period i couldn't tell you how I've been laughing hysterically at the some the jokes in the film, to be honest i actually enjoyed this movie just as much as i did the first film and well may not be an improvement but it's still entertaining to watch. See more Easton B @Ebmoviemaster2026 Jul 7 OKAY MOVIE, PERSONALLY THE MOST FORGETTABLE OUT OF ALL THE ICE AGE MOVIES FOR ME!!!!!!! See more Henry D @Henry_Domke Jul 7 It was a pleasant film to exercise to, and seeing it in 4K helped us appreciate the textures, especially the fur. The script, gestures, and gags were clever enough to make us chuckle a few times. Having such good voice actors also helped give the film more life than it might otherwise have had. It was not a great film, but it was an easy and enjoyable 3-star experience. See more Tyler S @tylerking24 Jun 25 This might be an interesting take, but the plot of this film should have been the plot of the first film. Don't get me wrong, I liked the first film more, but this movie felt like a proper Ice Age movie. If these sequels never happened, my score for the first movie might be a bit higher. But knowing there are FIVE films (boutta be six), that scares me a little. Still, thought this was an overall solid film! See more Read all reviews
