Audience Member From a time when the teenager was still being invented, Idol on Parade is reminiscent of those unfunny Carry On films that lacked any of the usual stars. There's nothing wrong with the cast per se, William Bendix, Sid James and Lionel Jefferies all appear alongside the frankly unpleasant Anthony Newley. Sadly, none seem willing or able to lift an unfunny script and storyline out of the three star category. Idol on Parade isn't especially amusing and doesn't offer much of an insight into what was happening in the UK at the time. The tone of the movie is set by an opening number, performed by Newley, that would provoke even the least feminist minded woman to throw a brick at the screen.
