      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

I'll See You in My Dreams would be worth watching even if Blythe Danner's central performance was all it had going for it, but this thoughtful drama satisfies on multiple levels.

Hayley M I felt rather mehhh after watching this film! The main character Carol is rather self absorbed and not very likeable! She is living a safe, privileged and comfortable life in a beautiful home with lovely friends but is so miserable! She chose to do nothing with her life but wallow ... this frustrated me! Her friends had more gumption! I enjoyed their banter! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Aaron S It's a pretty unconventional drama that pulls at the heartstrings pretty effectively. I don't imagine it's the simplest thing to make a movie about aging be so relatable to everyone but I think this one really pulls it off. It all revolves around multiple relationship vignettes of lead Blythe Danner's Carol that rarely intersect and the strongest of these is that between her and her pool cleaner Lloyd (Starr). It's such an honest feeling and charming relationship between a young man and an old woman that brings out natural opposing ideas such as "looking back on life" vs "looking forward toward life." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review karen f I wasn't expecting much, but I love Blythe Danner so I gave it a try. So very glad I did. Intelligent script, great directing and superb performances. I laughed and cried and delighted in the too-true storyline. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie wasn't bad by any means, but by the end you'll wonder what changed for the main character. It's a slice of life film that doesn't leave you (or the main characters) any better off or worse then you were at the beginning. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I had high hopes because of the cast but for me it was too slow and without a very solid plot. I probably missed the "deeper" meaning but I was not entertained nor was I drawn in. The rat - don't know why there needed to be one in the story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member It was an unusual movie. One I didn't know i would like. I found myself floating along with this movie.. It truly was not like watching any other movie i aint have ever seen.. I felt like i was watching a life. I felt myself immersed and consumed. Rated: 3/5 Feb 9, 2016 Full Review John Hartl Seattle Times [Danner is] clearly having a ball with this character. Rated: 3/4 Jun 7, 2015 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Still, even flawed "I'll See You in My Dreams" is a worthy effort to be a viable summer counter-programming option for the adults out there that want to slow down, unwind, and appreciate someone like Blythe Danner that ages like fine wine. Rated: 2/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times It covers the day-to-day events in the life of a woman of advanced years who slowly breaks free from routine and begins to see why everyone is so taken with her. The only thing better than knowing Carol is being Carol. Rated: 4/5 May 10, 2022 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Just what the doctor ordered.
