I'm Wanita is the story of a chaotic, flamboyant force of nature & her lifelong odyssey to realize her childhood dream. Based in Australia's 'Country Music Capital', Tamworth, Wanita (self-dubbed as "Australia's Queen Of Honky Tonk") lives her own unique version of the rough-talking, hard-drinking, country music lifestyle. Devoted to the sound & personalities of classic country and clearly "born in the wrong era", Wanita commits to walk in the footsteps of her honkytonk idols by recording in Nashville. Using a combination of observational, on-the-run interviews & live performance, the film follows Wanita over a tumultuous five years as she tries to redirect her reckless life to fulfill her potential & have one last stab at her dream -- before it's too late.

Australia’s self-described “Queen of Honky Tonk” is a larger-than-life character with a heart of gold and a no-holds-barred attitude to life, and Matthew Walker’s film serves her well.

If that was all there is, the film might go down as an oddity, but when Wanita sings, we understand why she is so dogged in her desire to keep working.

A head-on collision of drama and excess, Wanita is as untameable as her wave of flaming red curly hair. Nothing is easy when she storms into a room, and first-time director Walker captures it all in this often uncomfortable yet rewarding documentary

I'm Wanita is mainly an observational doc, which becomes a genius move when dealing with such an unpredictable character. This strategy allows for moments to simply happen and even allows room for on-the-fly interviews, enlighten[ing] our viewpoint.
