When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice's behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Imaginary's core concept is solid enough to produce a handful of scares, but too much of its potential is lost in a clichéd story that gets bogged down in world-building.

      Audience Consensus

Imaginary passes the time painlessly and has some scary moments, but in the end, this is a pretty basic horror movie.

JENNIFER R Think if Insidious and Monsters Inc have a baby, and that's this movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Anthony L Absolutely Fantastic and just the right amount of Scary for a teenager (13) and a 10 year old. Great Story too. We all loved it. 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review vanessa m Enjoyed it. Not super scary but definitely family friendly. My teens enjoyed it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Steven S The pace was perfect and the anticipatory story kept you guessing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review TUNEMOD3 I really wanted to like this movie, but they made it so hard to. The concept of this film had me really excited, I even enjoyed the lore they introduced in the film about the imaginary friends. I've really been struggling to find things I liked about this film. Visually, the film looked great, and for the most part, the acting was fine. With standout performances by DeWanda Wise, Pyper Braun, and of course the legendary Betty Buckley. Besides that the film felt very hollow. They could have done so much with this concept. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review John The movie started a little slow but picked up and was intense. I loved the premise of the movie. This is one that I'd love to own. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

John Nugent Empire Magazine Not a total catastrophe, but perilously close to being one. Is it too obvious to say Imaginary is simply lacking in imagination? Rated: 2/5 Mar 12, 2024 Full Review Kristy Puchko Mashable While a bit unwieldy, Imaginary is a playfully deranged movie that's sure to be a hit at slumber parties. But grown-ups can enjoy its spirited scares, too. Mar 10, 2024 Full Review Peyton Robinson RogerEbert.com It suffers from the plague of overly convoluted plots that are executed by overly simplistic means: flat expositional dialogue, car commercial visual style, and a seemingly first draft creative concept that never irons out the wrinkles. Rated: 1/4 Mar 9, 2024 Full Review Amanda the Jedi Amanda the Jedi (Youtube) Blumhouse seems to be on a mission to make the dumbest and most boring horror movies of the year, and this is no exception. Imaginary is ineffective at everything it attempts. Apr 20, 2024 Full Review Tony Baker Tony Baker Comedy I didn't really do anything for me. Rated: 2/5 Apr 18, 2024 Full Review Jonathan Sim ComingSoon.net By the time the credits roll on Imaginary, you will have mixed feelings. There are a few good ideas here and there, but the characterization needed a bit more work, and the scares needed to be polished a tad more. Rated: 5/10 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
