Carson Lund Slant Magazine Accuse Walerian Borowczyk of perpetrating a pervy male gaze, but never accuse him of repressing anything. Nov 3, 2021 Full Review Philip Strick Sight & Sound The film ends on the infant's cheerful face... it's the perfect conclusion. Mar 19, 2020 Full Review Simon Abrams Village Voice Borowczyk's cruel attempts at social commentary are mollified significantly by his probing fascination with the female body. Dec 9, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Though it's not one of Walerian Borowczyk's best works, fans of the director should appreciate this early bid at blurring the lines between titillation and entertainment. Rated: 3/5 Oct 20, 2020 Full Review Jesús Fernández Santos El Pais (Spain) In Paloma Picasso, sex reaches the exquisite category of a rigorously calculated pleasure, a studied rehabilitation of love. Petros T It's undeniably off the charts how male-gazey this is. At the same time, if you know you're in for a borderline pornographic sexploitation fantasy, the almost overbearing, gratuitous nudity and rather unusual scenarios might titillate you. And yet, although great shots, good ideas and zany humour are present, variety, storytelling and messaging are not; more laughs, surrealism and exaggeration would have made a difference, but as is it's merely a softcore curio with an uncomfortable perspective. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I like it. It is super gratuitous, and deals with heavy topics like rape, incest, and murder. But there is a reason for that, so I appreciate what the director is trying to do. Plus it is beautifully framed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review bill p If Eric Rohmer made porn this is what it would look like. A quaint, quiet piece of eroticism seen with a male eye in those innocent days before internet porn, when you could show the cucumber but not the act and before every bit of female body hair had to be shaven off. Why was it made? Who knows - I love the list of Genres that Rotten Tomatoes chooses to classify it with: "Art House & International, Drama, Horror, Special Interest, Romance" Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite being gorgeously shot, and directed with a careful eye for the human form, this down trodden, ugly expression of psychosexuality is twice as hard to think back on, as it is to watch. It feels like the result of perversion, not artistic yearning. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member boring softporn flick. 1,5/5 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It's like Salo's twin sister.. The kind of movie that'll make people (even the Pope) say: Holy shit. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
