Audience Member Really don't know how many stars to dish out here. I liked how different it was...it made a effort to be different...bright colours, lots of women in the crew including a woman captain......but i found it a bit overlong and a bit annoying....it tests the patience at times..there was times where i wanted to switch it off. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review walter m "In the Dust of the Stars" opens with a rescue mission from the planet Cyrno that almost needs rescuing itself before Akala(Jana Brejchova), the mission commander, takes manual control, steering the rocket to a safe landing on the planet Tem. They are responding to a two-year old distress call from the planet but their leader, Ronk(Milan Beli), says no thanks, it was not them, but enjoy your stay anyway. Not wanting to have gone all this way for nothing, Akala decides to stay for a few days before lifting off, intending to use the time for the crew to get to know the natives a little better while Suko(Alfred Struwe) stays behind as the designated driver. On their return, he is alarmed at their changed attitudes in wanting to leave immediately and even more so when he finds out that their near crash was no accident. "In the Dust of the Stars" has certain things going against it, such as a boilerplate science fiction plot and a lack of execution in staging it with much success. That's not to say the movie looks shoddy, which it does not, as the colorful design is a product of the time the movie was made, along with more than its share of dance numbers. Just remember that one person's camp is another's meaningful statement, as what is going on in the story is how one society presents itself to another. While the Temians are all flash, the Cyrnians have nothing to prove, going on a rescue mission for people they have never met which is commanded by a woman from an apparently egalitarian society. Plus, the movie does have one neat kicker of an ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow! This film is bonkers. If you enjoy classic Scifi, you'll probably enjoy this film immensely. With all the classic look and feel and story of a 70s science fiction film, In the Dust of the Stars manages to pull itself from the crowd by including a lot of dancing. In fact, I'd almost say that there is dancing in about 25% of the film. The nice thing about the dancing is it often involves half naked or totally naked women so while it didn't make much sense to the story, it at least gives you something nice to look at. LOL The story on the surface doesn't seem like anything new and despite the logical questions that come up (ie. in a film that involves 3 different alien races, how is it they all speak German?), but when you compare the film to the real life situation of East Germany at the time, you see a more defined political messa ge. Oh and if you watch this film for nothing more than the great hair cuts and clothing, you should be pleasantly engaged and leave with a smile. They have a tendency to transform this film from serious science fiction film to something more akin to a comedy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member groovy campy fun! das good! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice film, the story was quiet good! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member charmingly naive communist propaganda... Kind of slow - which allows one to focus on the amazing sets, costumes and score!
