Critics Consensus

Limited in setting but impressive in scope, In Syria uses one group's experiences to offer a brilliantly effective indictment of the horrors of war.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Chamber drama doesn't begin to describe this gripping French feature. Mar 26, 2020 Full Review Tom Long Detroit News "In Syria" is a finely made film - brisk, well-acted and filled with tension and mean twists. But it's also a wake-up call and a cry for help. Elene N Heartbreaking, very important film showing us what war does to us…. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review Audience Member I relived my life in war torn Lebanon as I watched this movie. Beautiful acting of Hyam Abbas and Diamand Abouabboud. Van Leew was able to give us the ambiance of locking ourselves inside our homes while bombs are exploding left and rigt around us. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good movie that captures the reality of the Syrian war and its relevance in the day-to-day life of a Syrian family under siege. As a Syrian watching this movie, it is chilling for me to think that such atrocities probably happened. All the characters of the movie adequately depict the reality of a Syrian family: from the East-Asian nanny to the young liberal teenagers to the nice bonding grandson-grandfather moments!
