Nuclear war devastates much of the world, but old man John Ramsey (Neil Fletcher) manages to survive, and he holes up on his rural property with his daughter, Joanna (Charla Doherty). Because John always believed in the inevitability of nuclear apocalypse, he'd prepared the house with plenty of provisions. Other survivors of the disaster start to show up at the house demanding refuge. John reluctantly lets them in, but there is much tension. Then the mutants appear.

nick s The first five minutes are a fair reflection of this film... it doesn't get any better. The actors are just reading their lines to each other. The story limps along and doesn't go anywhere remotely interesting. To be honest I think most student films would match this effort. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Watched this because I thought it was some other post apocalyptic movie from the 1960's. Sadly, it was not so I will still have to keep looking for that particular title. Fortunately, in the first half, it was a fairly interesting movie about radioactive mutant cannibals following a nuclear holocaust in the year 2889. The last 30 minutes were kind of a drag with not much conflict or resolution. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it! Kurt Russell was incredible Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/07/20 Full Review Audience Member 'In the Year 2889' is a 1967 b-movie about a group of strangers holed up on a property following a nuclear holocaust. Radiation levels are rising, a horde of cannibal mutants are closing in and mental states are fracturing. Of course it's a tacky movie and not a whole lot happens but given its time of release it's actually kind of fascinating. The mutant effects are grotesque for their time and I reckon if I were a teenager back then i would have lapped it up. What surprised me the most is how similar it is to Night Of The Living Dead and yet this was made one year prior... makes me wonder if Romero was influenced by it. Nuclear energy was still a frightening concept to a lot of people in the late 60s and so these b-movies played right into those fears. This one comes at the tail end of it all and people were probably growing tired of it all but watching it 46 years later I got a nerd-boy kick out of it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty awful end-of-the-world drama. Survivors of a nuclear exchange hide in a mansion in the mountains, fighting off a mutant and each other. It was so lame it really couldn't even be enjoyed on an Ed Wood camp level. It you want a smart end-of-the world film from roughly the same era, "The World, the Flesh and the Devil". Or if you want a modern end-of-the-world film that's absolutely terrifying, watch "The Divide". Or for a clever modern low-budget effort, watch "Right at Your Door", though that one is a disease outbreak scenario. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
