Scott Tobias The Dissolve Even if The Incredible Melting Man were deliberately retro, re-creating the look and feel of a stultifying drive-in undercard isn't exactly a laudable achievement. Rated: 0.5/5 Jul 30, 2013 Full Review Time Out This Z-grade effort, lacking any low-budget energy, takes its cue from the central character: it's tacky and bumbling and sinks into its own morass long before its subject finally dribbles apart, slurp, glub. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Tom Buckley New York Times Each spring brings similar releases to fill the need of drive-in operators for something cheap to put on the screen for the kids in the cars to ignore or laugh at. Rated: 1/5 May 9, 2005 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy "Oh, my God, it's his ear!" And so it goes with The Incredible Melting Man, a piece of sci-fi cheese so pungent that it was honored with its very own Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. Rated: 1.5/4 Feb 12, 2023 Full Review Jacob Knight Birth.Movies.Death. There's a reason this film's appearance on MST3K lead to one of the famed series' best episodes: there's just so much fodder for filmic abuse that one can't help but crack wise while viewing it. Feb 28, 2018 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed The story borders on tedious and dives in to monotonous so spectacularly you’ll be begging for it to end by the hour mark. Allan C After returning from space, an astronaut develops a condition that makes him appear to be melting and also act murderous. The astronaut runs amok along the countryside like Frankenstein's monster, except that he's a dripping, melting, gelatinous monster. Rick Baker (AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, STARMAN, HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS, etc.) had moved on from low-budget B pictures by this point in his career, just coming off of King Kong and the original Star Wars, so when he was asked to work on this film demanded a ridiculous salary to get out of it, but to his surprise, the producers accepted his demand, so he took the job. Baker's Melting Man is really the only reason to watch the film. The rest of it is kind of a mess. The story is dull, it can't decide if it wants to be scary or funny, and the characters are completely uninteresting. Great title. Mediocre film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Jeepers C I really love low budget movies like this. Some of my favorites may be some of those movies hated most by others. Some of my all-time favorites include Humanoids From the Deep, Streettrash, Killer Klowns from Outer space, Bad taste and many more. I am just a fan of low budget horror good or bad. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/24 Full Review Justin T Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. This was not good at all. This story is stupidly terrible and doesn't make any sense. The effects are silly and pointless and totally unconvincing. Half of the time it is impossible to tell what is going on as it is so dark. The acting is wooden. There is no entertainment, fear, nudity so it's pointless wasting your time watching it. Most of the time the whole film leaves you guessing as to what the hell is happening. This is a truly pointless and boring film which should not be watched. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review delysid d it's on the same level as films like the swarm, caligula or the devil's rain Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/20/20 Full Review Audience Member This film is so bad that it almost seems intentional - but it wasn't. I recall the promotion of it, lauding the involvement of Rick Baker. But aside from his yucky effects, it is completely amateur, with some of the dumbest dialogue ever produced. Favorite line: "He seems to get stronger as he melts." There's one for a physics drop out. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member After travelling through the rings of Saturn most of an astronaut crew perishes upon returning to earth due to an alien illness. The lone survivor develops a condition which causes his skin to effectively melt away while his brain goes haywire turning him into a homicidal maniac. Murdering a nurse as he escapes the hospital, he roams the countryside killing any who get in his way while being secretly pursued by military and other government agents. The effects were rather good and there was some decent humor present, but as a whole this was a snore. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
