Dave S After being executed based on evidence provided by his fellow criminals, ‘Butcher' Benton (Lon Chaney Jr.) is revived, somewhat improbably, via surreptitious scientific experiments and embarks on a killing spree as payback against those who betrayed him. A mash-up of film noir, science fiction, and horror, The Indestructible Man is proof why these three genres are so rarely combined – it doesn't work. Other than some sporadically nice camerawork, the movie looks like something one step up from an Ed Wood movie – cheap sets, awkward dialogue, horrible sound, some genuinely weird directorial decisions by someone named Jack Pollexfen, and a silly story. At least Ed Wood flicks had some unintentional comic relief – not so with The Indestructible Man. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/09/23 Full Review georgan g The plot was kinda fun. Here you have an evil man who is executed, then brought back to life with special skills. Just watching the close-ups of Lon Chaney, Jr.'s eyes has to give it three stars. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member You usually can't go wrong with a Lon Chayney, Jr. movie. However "The Indestructible Man" seems to be an exception. The movie is for all intents and purposed a carbon copy of a movie Chayney starred in fifteen earlier titled "Man Made Monster". It has an almost identical plot. Also the plot in general has been done countless times in other horror movies that it has become way too predictable. What makes the movie at least watchable is the supporting cast. They all do a good job and help carry the movie to a certain extent. Otherwise I would not bother at all with "The Indestructible Man". It is dull, unoriginal and not worth your time. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The bottom of the TCM barrel. Pure garbage. Sad coda to Lon Chaney Jr.'s movie career. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Ultra cheap Frankenstein crime noir hybrid, not badly acted, but with a perfunctory plot that mixes clunky exposition and second-hand Marlowe-esque voice-over. There's even a nod to sci-fi when a Theremin suddenly turns up on the soundtrack. Poor Lon Chaney lurches around like he just wants the cheque. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review kevin w A murdering psychopath (Chaney, of course) and career criminal is reanimated after being sentenced to death. The gang that ratted him out to the D.A. is now in trouble as the reanimation included making the brute super strong and invulnerable. So now he's a modern day Frankenstein loose in Los Angeles. Sometimes so corny it lends itself to laughter, but still better than many others in this genre. There's plenty of babes wandering the set in their swimsuits, too.
