Audience Member Something tells me this will be a relatively long review of mine, since I'll probably rant my guts out. Indignados was the opening ceremony documentary at the 14th Documentary Festival here. And it's probably the worst opening movie in a festival ever. It was supposed to be a documentary that takes a stance and says something about the economical state in which the world finds itself in during these last few years. But this "documentary" did no such thing. First of all, I really cannot call it a documentary. About 50% or more of it was "fiction" - crappy fiction, but fiction nonetheless. The main character is unlikable and you really don't care about anything or anyone in this movie (and this is coming from a Greek - and there are plenty of scenes from Greece in this "film.") Many random fragments made up this movie, which was about 60 minutes too long. Sky scenes, fields, trees, riots, dancing, oranges, newspapers flying, quotes, homeless people, unemployed people, immigrants. Too much of a bad thing. And that scene of the fox in the hen-house was totally unnecessary and uncalled for. It was cruel, and it belonged in Discovery Channel, and not this movie. To finally sum it up: this was bad. Boring, excessive, empty, silly, over-sold, under-written, not intense, not clever, not poignant. Gatlif is an otherwise good director, but he lacks better judgment sometimes. Too much paper and oranges wasted on such a bad fiction-infused documentary. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews
