For Evan McCauley (Mark Wahlberg), skills he has never learned and memories of places he has never visited haunt his daily life. Self-medicated and on the brink of a mental breakdown, Evan is sought by a secret group that call themselves “Infinites,” revealing to him that his memories may be real--but they are from multiple past lives. The Infinites bring Evan into their extraordinary world, where a gifted few are given the ability to be reborn with their memories and knowledge accumulated over centuries. With critical secrets buried in his past, Evan must work with the Infinites to unlock the answers in his memories in a race against time to save humanity from one of their own (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who seeks to end all life to stop what he views as the cursed, endless cycle of reincarnation.

Critics Consensus

An initially intriguing sci-fi thriller that quickly veers into incoherence, Infinite is as inane as it is inconsequential.

Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald The visuals are spectacular, but things get increasingly derivative as they progress, and Jason Mantzoukas' ill-conceived comic-relief character falls clangingly flat. Rated: 3/5 Aug 11, 2021 Full Review Lindsey Bahr Associated Press It's exactly the kind of big, silly, occasionally exciting spectacle that have come to define summer movie season, for better or worse. There's even an opening for a sequel. Rated: 2/4 Jun 18, 2021 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News "Infinite" is overcluttered with special effects and plagued by wooden acting and doesn't have one genuine character in it. Rated: 1/4 Jun 16, 2021 Full Review Emiliano Basile EscribiendoCine ...if you strip away the science fiction flavor of the plot, you're looking at a simple action movie, even one without existential pretensions. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/10 Jul 1, 2025 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut With so many past lives to choose from, the filmmakers of Infinite still repeated the same mistakes when there should have been limitless possibilities. Instead, it’s an endless exercise in suspense-free filmmaking. Voice O Let's waste the minimum amount of words on this. Yes, that. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review Peter F Painfully bad movie. An interesting premise that could have been used and developed in many ways is wasted by not using it for anything at all, other than a wooden pretext for a lazy, dumb action movie. Zero world building, horrible storytelling, horrible writing, horrible dialogue, horrible characters, mostly bad acting (prob not the actors’ fault really, with this material…). While the action scenes are decent, they are also pointless because no-one cares — everything else in this movie feels so amateurish you feel like watching a play written and acted by 12-year olds in a school theatre. This movie fails at a lot of very standard stuff even B or C movies master with ease these days. Such crap from Fuqua… inexplicable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review Francisco R Entretenida, me agrada la mitologia de la reencarnación, funciona con sus escenas de acción, tal vez si se explora aún más la idea de origen sería más interesante. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review Daniel N Pretty standard Mark Wahlberg action movie. Entertaining but not amazing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Chrystian d The concept at the heart of this film is undeniably intriguing, drawing you in with its promise of a fresh take on reincarnation. However, as the story unfolds, glaring inconsistencies pile up, making the plot predictable, tedious, and at times, downright incoherent. While the action sequences and visually striking cinematography attempt to salvage the experience, they can't fully mask the script's shortcomings. If you're a fan of reincarnation-themed content and don't mind overlooking flaws for the sake of the genre, this might still be worth a watch. I've seen it three times since its release, but by this latest viewing, the cracks in the narrative were too obvious to ignore—almost as if the filmmakers leaned into them, hoping flashy visuals would distract us. Spoiler: they don't entirely succeed. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Patryk S WTF did I watch? Not worth watching Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Read all reviews
