Critics Consensus

Despite its two stellar leads, Into the Night finds director John Landis indulging in far too many gimmicks in lieu of a well-rounded story.

"Into the Night" features cameo appearances by 11 directors, none of whom had the sense to get behind the camera and help the 12th, John Landis. Go to Full Review

Pfeiffer in particular takes the sort of glamorous yet preposterous part that generally defeats even the best actress and somehow contrives to make it credible every inch of the way. Go to Full Review

There are a couple of jarring sequences that feel tonally wrong, but, overall, Landis and scripter Ron Koslow keep the picture sure-footed and fleet-footed. Go to Full Review

Nicholas B Sep 28 I have seen all of the critics complaining about this or that in the movie, but the bottom line is this: it's a fun movie and a great watch. It's amusing to pick out all of the various cameos of other stars (and directors), but Jeff Goldblum is always fun to watch, and Michelle Pfieffer, as always, lights up the screen. Director John Landis doesn't make bad movies; he knows what he's doing here. While it isn't high art, it's a nice time, with characters you won't forget. See more John P @juanarto 09/12/2024 Super fun and funny and deeply satirical of the times (1985). Lots of subtle references to how we communicated back then, pre-internet and cell phones. See more Iman R 10/17/2023 If you're Iranian American it's worth watching for the one scene where the bad Iranian guys are sitting on a couch eating pistachios and breaking gaz(Iranian nougat) with the butt of a gun...and that the director John Landis happens to be one of them. Otherwise a an awkwardly paced, surprisingly boring (despite lots of car chases) movie with sub par performances from otherwise good actors especially Goldblum who seemed to sleep through it (though to be fair his character was supposed to be half asleep). I guess that's just bad writing then. See more Steve D 08/27/2023 A train wreak no matter who is involved. See more Read all reviews
