Naive secretary Karen Williams (Shirley Jones) arrives with her boss, Raymond Fontaine (George Sanders), at the estate of handsome Italian Count Paolo Barbarelli (Rossano Brazzi). Though they have come only to determine the value of Paolo's art collection, Karen finds herself attracted to the seductive count but is unnerved by his 19-year-old daughter, Cora (Giorgia Moll), who claims she is actually his wife.
