William L Solid acting, suspenseful plot, gorgeous cinematography Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review Audience Member He plots her death - but is convinced she isn't dead - by a cough heard on a live recording. And his mania stems from that cough. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a slow moving, quiet drama like a 1970s movie. If you go into it expecting action and excitement... don't. If you remember the movie Sleuth fondly you'll like this. If you're too young to remember Sleuth keep moving. You don't have the attention span. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I hate watching movies and then realized I wasted my damn time.. We never found out what really happened with his wife, and the ending made no damn sense at all Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member I think the critics nailed it with their 10% score. In trying to get viewers to decide what is fact vs. fiction and how the story of the lead character's wife's disappearance parallels the disappearance of a famous writer, my wife and I had to hit the pause button a number of times to ask each other "now, what just happened there?" Sadly, I predicted the reveal about halfway through the movie. And the ending? Just. Plain. Dumb. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Great movie! Very suspenseful...will keep you guessing until the end. You'll want to watch it without any distractions (in order to pick up on the little clues throughout). I definitely recommend! Nell Minow RogerEbert.com This film tells us that the gulf between what we want to know and what we can know may never be illuminated. Rated: 3/4 Jan 17, 2020 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times Perhaps when it comes to intricately strategized stories involving writers and their output, their telling would ultimately have been better served by the reader's imagination. Jan 16, 2020 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times The stagings are stilted; the relations between the conflicted characters never catch fire. Jan 16, 2020 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media Slow-moving, convoluted, and chilly, this mystery (based on a novel by Swedish author Hakan Nesser) has the right ingredients, but it frequently feels disconnected, and it doesn't completely click. Rated: 2/5 May 8, 2020 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru An overwrought, dull and undercooked thriller stuffed with too many characters and not enough suspense and intrigue. Rated: 5.284849/10 Jan 20, 2020 Full Review Lael Loewenstein FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is a movie that really wants to be a film noir, but doesn't respect the conventions of that genre in order to make it a decent one.
