Chandler Levack Globe and Mail There's a compelling mystery at the core of Invisible Essence: The Little Prince. But more than anything, it will inspire you to pick up that dog-eared copy of the novella you've had since childhood. Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 8, 2019 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Essays how imagination and inspiration are inextricably linked. Rated: 4/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Courtney Small Cinema Axis It is in the deconstruction of the various layers of the book that Officer's film becomes its own unique telling of the story. Rated: B Mar 26, 2019 Full Review Jim Slotek Original Cin The Little Prince is a dark allegory about humans, the ridiculous extent of our selfishness versus our capacity for good. And as Officer discovers when he takes his show on the road, children have no trouble absorbing its message. Rated: B-plus Mar 7, 2019 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said Officer's film is an intense meditation on Saint-Exupéry, his background and the forces that lead to this landmark book. Mar 7, 2019 Full Review Norman Wilner NOW Toronto Seeing all these different interpretations emerge from one narrative is beguiling, and Officer uses them as sources to illustrate the analysis and background provided by a host of experts. Audience Member A beautiful counterpart to the movie, telling of the incredible life and journey that led to The Little Prince - that of Saint-Exupery. It always astounds me how much of the creative and artistic mastery we're graced with, is born of pain and melancholy. Those involved in narrating this biopic-come-book-reading-style documentary are compassionate. Their personal and professional understanding, and their delving into the treasure chest of memories, add real colour and understanding to Antoine's life and personality, as well as repeatedly dipping into to the narrative and subtext of the story of The Little Prince. Beautifully poetic, even Saint-Exupery's death resonates with the story, as he flies off 'into the unknown', never to return Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
