Joey Rambles Cultured Vultures While not all that memorable, Invitation to a Murder is fun enough that mystery fans (especially Agatha Christie fans) are bound to have a good time, with its inviting visuals, likable cast, and entertaining set of characters. Rated: 6.5/10 Apr 26, 2023 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media Invitation to a Murder definitely pushes the limits of suspension of disbelief, and some of the characters -- mystery archetypes all -- skirt dangerously close into cliches and stereotyping, but it doesn't quite get cross over. Rated: 3/5 Apr 25, 2023 Full Review Peter Martin ScreenAnarchy Mischa Barton plays the sleuthing Miranda as a woman who has just found a purpose in her life, a moment when her natural bent toward close observation and analytical talents point her toward her future. ... A pleasant, enjoyable murder mystery. Apr 24, 2023 Full Review Josh Bell Crooked Marquee Barton struggles through far too many Poirotian expository speeches as she ploddingly puts together clues and ferrets out the murderer. Lyndsay D If written better it could have been great. There were a number of elements that could have been utilized to make the film more adventurous and trilling, but instead was left with unsatisfactory evidence and motive. The film cheated us by promoting a great mystery akin to the novels written by Agatha Christie. Instead the audience is given cheap deus ex machina solutions to solve its mysteries - something that regretfully cheapened the main female's intellectual and deductive mind as well. The one great thing I could say about the film is the house / set where the crimes took place - it was very interesting and beautiful to say the least...but not worth spending the time to watch this movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/11/24 Full Review Fiona N Just like this movie, this review won't be all that surprising. Mischa appears to have walked directly off the set of the OC with the exception of a wardrobe change and what I think is supposed to be a British accent. Judging by the long pauses between dialogue, either the editing leaves much to be desired or there's a lot of memorising going on. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that if one was to cut out all of the pauses, this movie would be reduced to a suspenseful (that's being generous) 25 minutes. One star for the cinematography, the set design and Donald; who seems to be carrying this attempt at an Agatha Christie mystery. The only mystery here is how it has made it to a known streaming platform. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review Rhoanne v Entertaining only because it is so bad. Like Anaconda 1997 bad. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Lloyd S Worked too much with fantasy and terrible plot. Just a bored spinster playing as a detective. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Argyle amatuer dramatics at best..some of the worst acting I've ever witnessed with plot holes all over the place..the lead actress is as wooden as a plank...want a painful watch? This one's for you Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review David W It's not in the same class as the relatively recent Knives Out, Glass Onion or the Branagh helmed Poirot's but it's a nice addition to the genre and for the main is a solid movie. My wife very much enjoyed this and whilst my own personal recommendation is slightly less enthusiastic it is a perfectly watchable genre piece that will scratch your Agatha Christie itch reasonably well. There are some plotting and acting (accents seem somewhat forced etc) issues but they don't detract too much and it all adds up to an enjoyable if slightly lightweight watch.
