Leslie Felperin Guardian Serviceable but underwhelming, this murder mystery is very old-school in every way, reminiscent of many an Agatha Christie page-turner and even more so of Christie’s innumerable imitators. Rated: 2/5 Dec 24, 2024 Full Review Joey Rambles Cultured Vultures While not all that memorable, Invitation to a Murder is fun enough that mystery fans (especially Agatha Christie fans) are bound to have a good time, with its inviting visuals, likable cast, and entertaining set of characters. Rated: 6.5/10 Apr 26, 2023 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media Invitation to a Murder definitely pushes the limits of suspension of disbelief, and some of the characters -- mystery archetypes all -- skirt dangerously close into cliches and stereotyping, but it doesn't quite get cross over. Rated: 3/5 Apr 25, 2023 Full Review Peter Martin ScreenAnarchy Mischa Barton plays the sleuthing Miranda as a woman who has just found a purpose in her life, a moment when her natural bent toward close observation and analytical talents point her toward her future. ... A pleasant, enjoyable murder mystery. Apr 24, 2023 Full Review Josh Bell Crooked Marquee Barton struggles through far too many Poirotian expository speeches as she ploddingly puts together clues and ferrets out the murderer. Chico T The script is terrible. They throw in elements (the rabbits!!! Why!???) that are only there to create a false mystery. The characters contribute nothing. They could have had five suspects or 100, it wouldn't matter, since they have no motivations or events that would make you think they are. But the worst part is that the mystery isn't solved by the protagonist! To top it off, they throw in a fictional element like a technology that didn't exist at the time to solve it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/10/25 Full Review Audience Member Couldn't even finish the film, the acting is okay at best and painfully bad at worst. The writing and dialogue is stiff and feels so unnatural and feels the need to explain everything in painful detail. Also, none of the characters have any chemistry. Feels like a poor attempt to make a classic Agatha Christy story. Would not recommend. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/06/25 Full Review Phil S Awful Seen some baddens but this is really bottom of the barrel. One of the characters is a medical doctor. The first "victim' was only pretending. to be dead. Who writes this garbage? They get paid.? What the heck! Micha Barton puts in a brilliant performance as a frumpy conceited holier than thou florist , who , if anyone lived next door to her they would move. No empathy with any of the characters . If I was one of the invited I would have blown my brains out at the very beginning rather than enduring the turgid grinding monotony. I suppose I'm the mug for watching it all the way through . You think there's no way this could possibly get any worse and yet it does iOMG There's going to be another two!! Argh Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Audience Member Burblespeu Halescourge Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/23/25 Full Review Scott D. Terrible. Bad acting, tired plot, zero character development and the “Detective” didn’t even solve the murder in the end. I signed up to Rotten Tomatoes PURELY to rate how bad this movie was. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Audience Member Solid production value, clunky direction, dismal character development, adequate plot but insultingly inept screenplay. Hammy moralizing does not work for a denouement. No background to legitimize any character's behavior? Mischa Barton deserved much better.
