Through the eyes of a strong-willed woman comes the remarkable true story of Irena Gut Opdyke and the triumphs of the human spirit over devastating tragedy. 19-year-old Irena Gut is promoted to housekeeper in the home of a highly respected Nazi officer when she finds out that the Jewish ghetto is about to be liquidated. Determined to help twelve Jewish workers, she decides to shelter them in the safest place she can think of: the basement of the German commandant's house. Over the next two years, Irena uses her wit, humor, and courage to hide her friends until the end of the German occupation, concealing them in the midst of countless Nazi parties, a blackmail scheme, and even the birth of a child. Her story is one of the most inspiring of our time.

Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com [T]his is such a worthwhile story that we can’t look away, and Nélisse is so engaging that we don’t want to. Rated: 3/4 Apr 19, 2024 Full Review Rex Reed Observer It’s a true if fantastic story, anchored by the powerful, heartfelt performances of Sophie Nélisse as an innocent girl whose integrity and resolve turns her into a woman of maturity and strength. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 16, 2024 Full Review Drew Gregory Autostraddle I’m glad I now know about Irena Gut Opdyke — I just wish I’d read her Wikipedia page instead of sitting through this film. Leslie I Very disturbing 😕 I watched part of it and shut it off. Why do we need to see a baby being stomped to death. It should be taken down. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review donnie m really good movie and makes me appreciate even the smallest things i have but i wish someone would make things more realistic in these kind of movies as in, their clothes, no wrinkles and they're all clean and ironed-hair clean, etc. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/06/24 Full Review Joe S i like it ,it was done real well Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Les N If it wasn't for the occasional realism it would be lower. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Audience Member Dougray Scott is truly unrecognizable in this film. Superb job. He is the best parts of this film. The story is an amazing one but it was missing something for me. It wasn’t handled as seriously. I know this type of film has been done before and it is shot beautifully. We touch on a few recognizable beats. But in my opinion the suspense in the film was wasted a little bit for a more comedic tone. This film is too accessible for audiences . I know it sound weird and it makes sense if your not trying to make Schindler’s List. But the comedic tone worked better for me in Jojo Rabbit. This film suffers from this subject matter and its handling of it. It was a good attempt in trying to capture both but fell a little flat for me in some areas. I was so impressed with Dougray Scott's performance that I ignored this film's short comings. overall a good film. with a potential learning experience for the director. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/22/24 Full Review Elisha I This movie reminds of the movie Sophie was also in, The Book Thief.. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/24 Full Review Read all reviews
