His father's demise leaves young Will Stoneman (Mackenzie Astin) and his mother struggling to save their farm from financial ruin. When options run out, Will registers for a marathon dogsled race, which touts a prize of $10,000, but is barred by race benefactor J.W. Harper (David Ogden Stiers), who believes Will is too young. However, a reporter (Kevin Spacey) with dubious motivations advocates on Will's behalf. Soon enough, Will is back in the race, hoping to save his father's legacy.

Iron Will is an Identikit plot, put together out of standard pieces. Even the scenery looks generic; there's none of the majesty of Disney's genuinely inspired dog movie, White Fang.

Overall, Iron Will is a satisfactory movie, even if it doesn't try to wow its viewers. The ending is pretty predictable and ultimately leaves me wishing it was more imaginative, but the movie does a good enough job of being entertaining with its easy to root for hero and clear villains.

A great movie for a cosy winter movie night. With a snow setting, a fresh story line and an underdog, it was a good feel good adventure movie. Made before sgi so feels authentic and stands up with its age
