Since the 16th century, the Mi'kmaq people of New Brunswick in Canada have managed to live alongside French settlers and their descendants. In 1999, the Canadian Supreme Court rules that a past treaty gives the Mi'kmaq perpetual hunting and fishing rights, regardless of hunting season laws. As the government pushes for new conservation standards, the embattled Mi'kmaq are confronted with violent assaults and vandalization as they struggle to maintain their way of life.

Audience Member Another strong documentary by Alanis Obomsawin. Although in my opinion not as powerful as "270 Years of Resisitance", this film sadly shows that racism and injustice towards the First Nation peoples conitinues. Again, Obomsawin provides the first (and last) representation from their side of an issue that was mainly shown as an irritant to the majority of Canadians.
