dave s Abandoned by her mother decades earlier, Nikki (Natalie Press) arrives on a desolate island off the coast of Scotland with the intent of finding her mother and killing her in an act of revenge. Island establishes a tense and gloomy atmosphere as the result of some effective cinematography that captures the appropriately bleak and barren landscape, as well as some great sound effects (the wind blowing through the tall grass, water lapping against the shore, gulls calling in the distance) that replaces the need, for the most part, of a music score. Unfortunately, the somber mood is often shattered by erratic, quickly cut flashbacks of Nikki's troubled childhood, something that could have been handled more effectively in a prologue or through narrative exposition. Otherwise, it's an impressive film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting is great but the movie needs some serious editing. I know they were going for atmosphere but it just gets tedious watching the same dark water and cloudy skies time and time again. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A very SLOW moving film, and a little bizarre. It didn't get interesting until the 2nd half. Don't want to give away any spoilers, but I will say that this is really a family reunion gone awry. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A story about love and hate, could not be more good!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A film that shows the true nature of human beings and what we can do. I loved Colin Morgan's performance, as did leave out the fun character of Merlin and as his character became so different. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member That dang Colin Morgan is so great he is just the best actor and if it wasn't for Merlin we might not have known that. He was so funny on the Catherine Tate show but we see his range in Merlin and movies like this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's good to see Natalie Press - so good in My Summer of Love - back on the screen, but this is a flimsy film. Rated: 2/5 Apr 21, 2011 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Directors Brek Taylor and Elizabeth Mitchell can't quite manage the fantastical imaginings of the two would-be lovers without creating a fey tone that destroys their realism. Apr 21, 2011 Full Review David Parkinson Empire Magazine Stunning to look at and ambitious in its symbolic rendering of the subject. Rated: 3/5 Apr 12, 2011 Full Review David Edwards Daily Mirror (UK) A slow-burning but ultimately devastating look at revenge gone awry, with Press conveying a subtle mix of bolshiness and fragility. Rated: 4/5 Apr 22, 2011 Full Review Trevor Johnston Radio Times An intriguing misfire. Rated: 2/5 Apr 21, 2011 Full Review Andrew Lowry Total Film The quasi-fairytale atmosphere is adeptly handled, and Kathy Li's cinematography imbues proceedings with a chilly beauty.
