Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle The end result is like a Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol production with all the ghoulish payoff that suggests, just with more wakka-wakka comedy than metaphysical angst. Rated: 2/5 Nov 12, 2020 Full Review Bee Delores B-Sides & Badlands It Cuts Deep is delightful and crude, a film with lean but fatty meat, and while it takes 20 minutes to rev up its engines, the second half burns some serious rubber and delivers quite a psychotic 1-2 punch. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 9, 2024 Full Review Steven Warner In Review Online [It Cuts Deep is an] insulting and reductive film that paints men as commitment-phobe monsters and women as marriage-starved shrews. Jun 5, 2021 Full Review Daniel M. Kimmel North Shore Movies The most notable thing about the film is how shallow it is. Rated: 1/5 Nov 20, 2020 Full Review Michael Ward Should I See It Maximizing a small budget, and efficiently working through its steps, you may see where It Cuts Deep is headed well before the characters do. Karl H This indie comedy is a surprisingly entertaining watch that makes the most of its budget. Set during a snowy Christmas getaway, it follows a young couple’s relationship as it’s tested by commitment fears and the arrival of a charming outsider. With solid performances and just enough emotional tension, it delivers a simple yet engaging story that proves you don’t need a big budget to tell a compelling tale. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/25 Full Review Andrew B I really enjoyed this one, especially as someone dealing with this same kind of stuff. Feels like not enough movies, especially in this genre, deal with this time in people's lives-- moving into real adulthood, contemplating marriage, kids, commitment, and "settling down", while struggling to understand and address your own trauma and issues. Then you fall in love with someone completely different than you and it turns everything on its head. How do you juggle ambition and disappointment and your own screwedupness with starting a life and family with another person? This digs into that question, while wrapping it in comedy and horror to raise the stakes and make us laugh (often uncomfortably). Special shout out to performances from Quinn Jackson, who seems like an actor to watch out for, and the unhinged dynamic between Nolan and Sam. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review James K A shaky micro-budget indie that nailed the landing. Well-made and grounded. The leads were great. The couple’s early dynamic was hilarious but a little bit unbelievable. The friendship felt genuine. Some rough edges, but that’s life. More real than most big-budget stuff. The horror was creepy but oddly funny. Worth a one-time watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Janet F It is just very cringeworthy. The main couple has absolutely no chemistry. In fact no one has chemistry in this movie. It is like a group of the most awkward people just trying way too hard to like each other and interact. The concept held some promise but nothing lived up to it at all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/03/22 Full Review Audience Member as soon as i started watching this i realized i had seen it before but couldn't remember it enough to rate/review it - so i watched it again. surprisingly. since it was a kind of painful. the dialog/acting is like watching a high school play & the story isn't that great. i don't think i'd recommend this one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the kind of little horror movie that you wait years for. I liked this movie so much I watched it two times in a row in one night!??
