John W. M A powerful and moving short film. Offers a glimpse of a young girl’s pain and resilience in the context of her missing older sister. Meditative and somber, it is a quiet reflection of life in Greenland. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review Wil G Far too ambitious. I can see what this film was going for, but it doesn't quite meet the mark in any respect. It clearly was trying to interrogate the perceived peacefulness and splendor of small native societies, using it's story and visuals to create a contrast between the beauty of nature/seclusion to the wickedness found in humans. One problem is that it spends most of it's runtime on landscape shots, so the final reveal that the main character's older sister was sexually abused has very little impact. Instead it's a hamfisted attempt to elicit sympathy for a character that was shown extremely briefly with only a few lines of dialog while the father is portrayed like a cartoon villain. The movie fails to create a deep notion of authenticity in the setting and characters; additionally, the refrain repeated throughout sounds like something from a children's book not a professionally written script. I would love to see this concept stretched into a full length film with a higher budget because there certainly is a nugget of interesting ideas in there, but it's far too complex for a short film to meaningfully flesh out.
