And an excellent narration by Richard Dreyfuss makes it a classic. See more 04/27/2012 There have been a lot of adaptations of Jack London's classic story. I have read the book and have seen most of the movies, but this one is easily the best. It is as faithful as a movie could get to this story, considering that the main protagonist is a dog and the story is told from his perspective... the movie is narrated by Richard Dreyfuss to give a sense of what the dog thinks and feels and Rutger Hauer stars as the dog's master. This is a beautiful movie. The animals are gorgeous and the locations are spectacular. I did find it to be a bit too short but its a small gripe when I enjoyed it so much.
