John DeFore Hollywood Reporter True second-chance story doesn't come to life onscreen. Jan 17, 2014 Full Review Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com A film with a message of inspiration, to be sure, but not much in terms of innovation. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 17, 2014 Full Review David Hiltbrand Philadelphia Inquirer For such a seriously street film, Jamesy Boy has some surprisingly sappy moments. But the redemptive ending, while thin, is genuinely gratifying. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 17, 2014 Full Review Dustin Putman TheFilmFile.com Tackled with a sense of thoughtfulness and compassion that makes the would-be garden-variety narrative worthwhile. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 18, 2014 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue The protagonist seems more sociopathic than sympathetic, and the film takes such a distorted view of the responsibility of role models and artistic expression in shaping troubled youth. Jan 31, 2014 Full Review Mike D'Angelo The Dissolve It's ultimately little more than the story of a hot-tempered young man who made a lot of bad choices, didn't like where they got him, and finally started making some better ones. While that's admirable, it isn't inherently compelling. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 24, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I LIKE THE STORY ABOUT HOW JAMES TURNED HIS LIFE AROUND TO SOMETHING POSITIVE AND THE STORY IS FACT BASED BUT A LOT OF VIOLENCE NOT ALL TRUE TO ME. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member The critics seemed a little rough on Jamsey boy I thought it to be a decent coming of age story about a boy he’s made some bad choices. The performances are good and the story flows pretty well going back and forth in time. I will agree the movie doesn’t offer many surprises and it’s pretty by the book but it’s still an enjoyable ride. Maybe this will prevent some kids from making the wrong choices. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/23/21 Full Review Audience Member It's a story about a sociopathic low-life. The problem with this type of film is the audience needs to have some sort of empathy or connection with the main character otherwise you tend to regard them with distain. Nick Love made that very mistake with Outlaw and in the end you don't give a monkeys what happens to them. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie like it is amazing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member A surprisingly solid story with a good performance from Spencer Rocco Lofranco, who captures and holds every frame he's in. It needed a bit more filmmaking prowess, moody cinematography, and stirring music like Moonlight to elevate it, but it's a solid effort all around. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Bad, bad, bad. Lofranco is a horrible actor, and should just go back to working for Abercrombie and Fitch.
