steve d Perhaps the most faithful, and one of the best adaptations of the great story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review daniel r It was going well, and then the last 20 minutes were terrible. Stupid marathon running, worst film kiss ever and silly end that made no sense. First hour was good though. Rupert Penry-Jones is good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review kali u This is my favourite movie of all time, unless you read the book you're really not understand where I'm coming from. There's a lot of pores and tenses between the characters and the moments and the absolutely necessary. I shall this The limb to so many people and is only after the recent persuasion was released they come back to me and say yes they got it right in this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Sally and Rupert did great jobs in this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review stace d My favorite rendition of Persuasion!! I loved the casting and it truly pulls you into the time period and sticks closely to Austen's novel. I bought the DVD of this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review matthew d Sally Hawkins is the perfect shy Jane Austen heroine Anne Elliot! Director Adrian Shergold's BBC film production of Jane Austen's period romance drama Persuasion (2007) is divine. It's a book accurate version that's highly entertaining and moving. Persuasion is only 93 minutes and flies by with deep feeling and subtle acting. Shergold's direction ensures every moment of Persuasion is dedicated to showing Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth's looks at each other. Shergold understands these hurting characters and Austen's beautiful material. Her tragic and thoughtful writing is lovingly adapted to the silver screen by Simon Burke. Every line has meaning and feels important in revealing character intentions and personality. Cinematographer David Odd has a neat handheld in person feel to his shots. His close-up shots of Sally Hawkins took my breath away. I love all the panning and tracking shots that follow Hawkin's face and eyes as she gazes at Captain Frederick Wentworth with longing. Composer Martin Phipps really delivered a romantic score for Persuasion. Phipps' music brings an astounding beauty with his subtle melodies and soft piano parts. I was quite taken with Persuasion's romantic score that compounds Anne's heartache and desires. Sally Hawkins is ethereal and lovely as Persuasion's forlorn heroine Anne Elliot. I felt profound sympathy for her because of Hawkins' timid nature and wonderfully shy portrayal of Anne. Hawkins has a lovely pale visage and gentle manner that captures Anne's personality. Austen wrote Anne with an inner sorrow and regret and Hawkins captures that inner conflict. I find Sally Hawkins supremely cute and a sublime actress. She's one of our greatest actresses. Her filmography is impressive from Persuasion, An Education, Blue Jasmine, Paddington, Maudie, The Shape of Water, to Spencer. Sally Hawkins can brilliantly play very touching ladies. Her ability to convey warmth and feeling with a stolen glance at Wentworth is incredible. Sally Hawkins should be in every drama. She is the romantic heroine with a kind heart and a quiet beauty. Hawkins is the best incarnation of Anne Elliot in my opinion. Rupert Penry-Jones is dashingly handsome as Captain Frederick Wentworth, but more important that you can see both his animosity and adoration for Anne Elliot on his face. He plays very nicely opposite Sally Hawkins. Anthony Head is a proper jerk as Anne's stern father and pompous socialite Sir Walter Elliot. Julia Davis is mean and jealous as Elizabeth Elliot. Alice Krige is interesting as the meddlesome Lady Russell. Tobias Menzies plays the shrewd cad well as Anne's distant cousin William Elliot. Mary Stockley is excellently vapid as social climber Mrs. Clay. Joseph Mawle is supportive as the nice Captain Harry Harville. Finlay Robertson is rather touching as the grieving Captain James Benwick. Amanda Hale is hilarious as the ever sickly Mary Musgrove. She's funny and selfish, which makes her a great foil as the selfless Anne's sister. Sam Hazeldine is very nice and friendly as Charles Musgrove. Jennifer Higham is very flirty and fun loving as the sweet Louisa Musgrove. Rosamund Stephen is nice as Henrietta Musgrove. In short, Persuasion (2007) with Sally Hawkins is the version of Jane Austen's classic story that you want to see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
