Critics Consensus

Illogical, tension-free, and filled with cut-rate special effects, Jaws: The Revenge is a sorry chapter in a once-proud franchise.

Jason Bailey Flavorwire 'Jaws: The Revenge' bears the marks of its rushed production, from the seemingly first-draft screenplay to its sloppy execution to the slender running time (under 90 minutes without credits) to the generally cheap look and feel. Aug 6, 2017 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune Jaws is looking a bit long in the tooth these days. Rated: 1/4 Apr 30, 2014 Full Review Sheila Benson Los Angeles Times Dumb beyond belief, hollow, bloody and nonsensical, it's Universal Studios' vanity movie, a way of providing employment yet again for its Great White icon. Apr 30, 2014 Full Review John Stark Mac the Movie Guy Jaws never needed a sequel, and with diminishing returns with each film, it’s easy to see why. The true revenge Jaws got wasn’t on the Brody family, but on moviegoers. Rated: 23/100 Jul 29, 2025 Full Review Jesse Hassenger Decider We should all be thankful for Jaws: The Revenge killing off this series once and for all; it’s the rare blockbuster franchise that has never been revived after its initial run. That gratitude should not extend to actually watching it, however. Jun 24, 2025 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …an unforgettable film, a true masterpiece of the so-bad-it’s good genre. It’s got more laughs than most comedies, …arguably the Godfather of the Sharknado spin-offs, Jaws 4 is a film which literally has to be seen to be believed… Rated: 2/5 Jun 20, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Gareth N This is a body of work that everybody connected to it should be ashamed of. There is absolutely nothing whatsoever to say that is positive. Use it as an example to future generations to show them how NOT to make a motion picture. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review David W To think how far this franchise has fallen... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Brian H The entire concept of the movie is ludicrous. Far from sold special effects on this entry into the Jaws franchise. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Avery S. This movie is a disappointment. The only good part is the soundtrack, otherwise, everything else is very subpar compare to the rest of the series. The plot doesn't make any sense at all and is completely illogical and is given absolutely no explanation AT ALL, it's also a complete left turn for the series and would be better fit for another movie. The kills in the movie at the very least are pretty gnarly, so there is that to look forward too, but otherwise th shark scenes are honestly quite poorly made, even showing the electrical bits of the shark, completely ruining the immersion, not to mention the horrific effects at the end of the movie, almost beyond Jaws 3-D levels of bad. And don't get me started on the shark roaring, seriously, how does a FISH roar???? Everybody knows that fish don't roar. Overall, I feel like this movie could've been better if it was given more time in the studio and they actually took time to plan it out rather than rush it out to make it before summer. Don't watch it, it's not worth the time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Dustin B. With the exception of the brilliant musical score and occasional scare, Jaws: The Revenge is anything but personal. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review Jordan P. Oof, this is bad. The plot makes even less sense than the third movie. The acting (save for Lorraine Gary and Michael Caine) is bad. The script is a mess. Who thought a shark cursed by voodoo (which was the original intent) in a Jaws movie was a good idea? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Read all reviews
