Jamie Dunn Sight & Sound We're getting a distinct Wes Anderson vibe from this whimsical take on teen angst from debut director Sergi Portabella. Jan 13, 2020 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film A beautifully balanced film that finds hope in difficult places, Jean-François And The Meaning Of Life doesn't worry too much about meaning but invites the viewer to experience joy in the struggle itself. isla s This is a fairly quirky, mildly amusing French film. It felt frustratingly bland mid way through and I didn't quite make sense of the ending, although I can't deny that there were some entertaining moments. I liked the determination showed by the main character and how Lluna interacyed with him but ultimately, the film didn't really grip or particularly engage me. Its under an hour and a half long and I was somewhat relieved when it ended, so its hardly a great watch. I suppose the ending was a bit obvious as well. I was mainly intrigued to watch it as I knew it was about the philosopher Camus and yet philosophy itself, while it is mentioned and referenced during the film, its not exactly analysed discussed much. Ok, yes this is certainly more of a light comedy and a sentimental coming of age film than anything else but it isn't a film I'd especially recommend, so, there you go.
