Jonathan Romney Film Comment Magazine Jessica Forever isn't primarily about effects or action-it's largely about feelings, and surprisingly delicate feelings at that. Mar 21, 2019 Full Review Radheyan Simonpillai NOW Toronto This film could perhaps be a miniature coming-of-age story, but Jessica Forever tacks on a dull, disposable dystopian plot with a faux femme-power element that feels purely decorative. Rated: 2/5 Sep 8, 2018 Full Review Jordan Mintzer Hollywood Reporter Jessica Forever sits on the border that separates the art house from the grindhouse, even if it never fully convinces in either sense. But it deserves credit for remaining so stubbornly in between two worlds. Sep 8, 2018 Full Review Nicolas Soto But Why Tho? A Geek Community Jessica Forever is a film that I would have probably never seen but I’m glad that I have. Jan 22, 2023 Full Review Andrew Wyatt The Lens A doggedly vague and inert dystopian tale with a total lack of dramatic frisson. Rated: D+ Feb 27, 2020 Full Review Molly Henery The Blogging Banshee Jessica Forever is a stunning film that uses a dystopian setting to show how the love and support of family, even an adopted family, can tame the savagery within. Chester Attempts to be stylish, but has little substance...just people talking about Jessica, with not much actually happening. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/22/23 Full Review Audience Member As a woman, I totally love the idea of a female power cult that is not based on sexuality. For a movie about men sitting around looking glum, it never fails to impress with its shots' startling beauty. Even without any character development and few lines, Aomi Muyock is captivating both in attitude and costume. The plot, though thin, deftly gets around using almost all special effects, except for some effects which feel a little less necessary and more like an art-school project. Despite errors in execution, I felt hungry for more like this film and I wish this were a whole genre. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review adam b Solid direction and cinematography; acting was great too. Story is what kind of fell apart; instead of exploring more of this dystopian reality these people live in, the film just piles on pointless subplots of relationships and lots of guys needed to be cradled and told "it's okay". Plus the ending, I would of liked to see that final standoff. Definitely dug this film but not a fan of how the story was handled Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
