Ricky Valero Ready Steady Cut This new version of Gaffigan is a delight in a space where comedians continue to push the boundaries like never before, which was refreshing. While not great, it’s still a very good comedy special. Rated: 3/5 Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Sean L. McCarthy Decider [Gaffigan] imagines if God might plan a retrospective of some sort. Of course, Gaffigan himself is on his 10th stand-up special. Whenever he does his retrospective, he might find himself regarding Dark Pale as perhaps his best work since Mr. Universe. matthias s *Jim Gaffigan: Dark Pale* feels like a bit of a letdown for a fan of his usually sharp comedy. The pandemic jokes dominate the special, and after years of hearing them from countless comedians, it feels tired and overdone. Gaffigan’s take on COVID lacks the fresh angle needed to stand out, making it feel repetitive. His diarrhea jokes, which are often reliable for a laugh, fall flat here, coming across as lazy and easy material rather than the clever humor he's known for. While there are a few chuckles here and there, the show doesn’t carry the same spark that his past specials had. It’s easily his weakest outing to date, with jokes that feel cheap and uninspired. As much as I enjoy Gaffigan, *Dark Pale* missed the mark. 2.5 stars. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review elizabeth t It was a bit dark at times, but reflective and cathartic (no pun intended!) commentary re the past very trying few years. It's smart, acerbic, and underscored with his usual kind silliness. VERY funny. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review KerryWhite's S Rating: 7/10. 73/100 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Dean E Maybe retire Jim,........ Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Ralph d In spite of its "darker" topics covered, it's quality commentary by one of America's premier comics. This is merely one piece in a rich tapestry of works offered up by Gaffigan, who didn't shy away from discussing subjects seldom discussed in stand-up settings. It's a testament to his versatility, and brilliantly executed, per the usual. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Lowell T Objectively one of his best and smartest standups, it's being pilloried by people who prefer their belief unquestioned, ignorant and small. Given the absolutely terrible impact it often has on everything from freedom of speech to public health to public policy; given its long history of protecting pedophiles; and given its incestuous relationship with big money, there is no topic that deserves to be publicly pilloried more than religion. And he's GENTLE compared to what it deserves. The people who came on here because they felt personally insulted by someone not sticking their head in the sand should, generally, be ashamed. Because it's a really solid piece of work, and damn funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
