Sean L. McCarthy Decider This is a thoroughly enjoyable hour, that while it might not represent any sort of breakthrough or innovative new use of stand-up comedy, certainly does showcase Jo Koy at the height of his comedic powers. Jun 6, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Birithivy Y Jo Koy: Live From Brooklyn - 7/10. You can tell Jo Koy has had a rough go at it this year. After his disastrous Golden Globe hosting job (hard to believe that was just this January), he returns with this special in Brooklyn. And boy, is he mad. Mad and pissed off. Not mainly due to that, but you can tell this is a special that is more driven by the stress and frustration that happened with that, and also, possibly due to the failure of his feature film (the mediocrely made Easter Sunday). Jo is a funny guy, who thrives from his culturally based humour. But unlike a Russell Peters though, it seems Jo struggles a little when it comes to deviating from his strengths. I like the energy here because he really seems like he’s just blowing steam. This is mostly a “old man yells at cloud” special, ranting about how things are these days. Hard to believe we are at this point in his trajectory, crazy. But again, this is a lot better work than what he has done recently, and he deserves credit for just going back up after back to back disasters. Not as good as some of his best work, but definitely, a decent special! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Kristy C Pleasantly surprised by this one. Still plenty of over the top moments and schtick, but Jo gets a bit more sincere and "real" in this one, which is more my style. I hope he continues in this direction.
