Alexandra Heller-Nicholas The Blue Lenses Dounoukos's project with the film adaptation [of Helen Garner's book] seems apparent: to give [the real life Anu] Singh a more ethically complex position within the [true crime] story. Aug 25, 2018 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald To the extent that they went in search of an honourable ambiguity, they have succeeded, but there may have been a stronger, more complex film in staying close to Garner's book. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 13, 2016 Full Review Luke Buckmaster Guardian Naming the film after the book seems to me a rather cynical exercise in brand association - moreso considering Garner herself was not involved, did not attend the premiere, and seems to have distanced herself from the film. Rated: 2/5 Oct 13, 2016 Full Review Jason Di Rosso The Final Cut [Consolation] is a dark and thought-provoking film that will linger with you long after the credits roll. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Keeva Stratton Rescu (Australia) The crime itself are like a train wreck in slow motion-you can see the crash about to happen, and yet you can't look away. Rated: 3/5 Sep 15, 2017 Full Review Lauren Carroll Harris Kill Your Darlings Perhaps it's not possible to translate the gonzo narrator, leading us into a dark-edged forest and getting lost with us, to cinema. Perhaps the material really cried out for a documentary treatment. Jul 19, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member After seeing the movie Anu Singh must have heaved a sigh of relief. It's very likey not as bad as she might have expected it to be. It's also extremely self righteous which is a put offer in itself. Highly recommend the Casefile podcast episode on this topic. Great example of not needing a million dollars and lots of resources to create a great impact. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this at the Melbourne International Film Festival and it was utterly terrible. Void of the compelling storyline from the original novel and with even worse acting, I would not recommend anyone see this film. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is an incredibly bizarre true crime story - and very disturbing. Maggie Naouri is brilliant at conveying the emerging mental health issues suffered by Anu Singh that leads to her boyfriend's murder. Sacha Joseph, who plays the complicit and enabling friend, is also very good. This was a riveting story that leaves many questions unanswered - perhaps the main failing of the movie. It is very compelling and proves, once again, that truth is often a lot stranger than fiction. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
