These Bolshoi girls are beautiful on the outside and as cutthroat as gangsters inside ... I like the Chinese classical dance where spirit leads form, so that form is imbued with spirit. Hopefully ballet incorporates that philosophy again someday.

Dance... lends itself almost too perfectly to film – and Robertson and his crew have maybe set a new benchmark with Joika for just how excruciatingly well the physicality and the stresses of dance – ballet especially – can be put on screen.

Delivers plenty of squirm-inducing suspense (complete with a ticking time bomb in the form of a stress fracture) and a compelling moral quagmire in this tale of self-determination flying close to the sun of self-destruction.

Finally a real film which borders on a documentary on dance and especially dancers, and which is not like those clips/films which say they are about 2 hours of dancing at 2 bullets... Diane Kruger is surprising. Talia Ryder is excellent as well as everyone else.
