Steve D The original was bad, this is worse. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Liam D There is some meta elements that some people will find weird but it's a compelling Biopic Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/15/21 Full Review Audience Member A film that picks up where the last one ended but gets tedious after "The Jolson Story" goes into production. In this film Jolson tries to get back into singing and shows his career around the world singing to soldiers and meeting his new wife in a hospital. I liked this film showing the ups and downs of Jolson's career as his music becomes out of fashion. Larry Parks does a good job playing Jolson again and the rest of the returning cast members are good in their roles as well. The film then amusingly shows Jolson's wish to have a film made of himself and Larry Perkins then plays himself and Jolson in the film. What I didn't like in this film was how much of the original film "Jolson Sings Again" shows. I think it's lazy to show long portions of the previous film as the audience have already seen the footage. I also thought Jolson leaving the screening and coming into watch it went on for too long and adds nothing to the film. So, overall, an enjoyable first half of the film is nearly ruined by the lazy, elongated premiere screening of the first film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one, but, still worth watching and looking into the life of a legend on the down side of his career Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Larry Parks is brilliant as Jolson. If you love the songs you will love this and The Jolson Story. Yes compared to todays films it is sentimentalised but Larry Parks performance is so stunning and charismatic it makes the film very watchable. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member It shouldn't work. Every musical clichà (C) - newspaper cuttings, 'let's do the show right now', schmaltz and sentimentality at every turn - but somehow it wins you over, in very large measure because of Larry Parks' central performance. He humanises and softens the egotistical Jolson. The movie ends up eating itself when Parks meets Parks, but it's a very enjoyable ride. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
