He may have social anxiety even in fame, but he’s owning it quite well. Go to Full Review

Angela L. @Angela-L 1d Some fans seem to have wanted Josh Johnson’s usual topical agility — the weekly “here’s what the world did today” mode. Symphony isn’t that. It’s the version of Johnson you get when he stops reacting to the system and starts mapping it. This special isn’t about headlines, it’s about the systems underneath them — the emotional, social, and generational machinery that actually shapes people. It’s a tightly composed hour about childhood, identity, and the strange social “music” we all make together. This shift may feel unfamiliar if you’re used to his faster paced, news driven rhythm, but it’s also what makes Symphony land with more depth than expected. The end ties the whole thing together in a way that rewards anyone paying attention to the architecture, not just the jokes. See more Keith K @Peacemaker17 1d I was surprised by how good this was. I know him from The Daily Show, and he does an all right job there. But when he is allowed to run the show, it gets a lot better. And not dirty or nihilistic, which, as much as I love Jim Jeffries, nice to see a comedian take a different tack. He should get noticed for this. Thanks Johnson, I appreciated your work. And the Jesus story about guys he healed. Such a funny perspective, knew them both, never thought of it that way. See more Adriana G @drioliv 2d Very classy comedy special. The first half is so much better than the second. Overall, very entertaining and very clean. See more Saundra D @RT26097983 4d I'm a big fan of JJ and while I dont watch religiously each week on You Tube, I do pay for the membership to support his work. I only paid for HBO Max for this special and I'm really glad I did. This is different from his regularly scheduled programs but I enjoyed the difference. He is a smart and compassionate human so his comedy may not "hit" for everyone. I found this special to be similar to his "Up Here Killing Myself" show and equally as good. I'm glad he offered something different. If I were to place it in a category I would say thought provoking comedy. It is a production with a purpose. At first I didnt get the music breaks but it all made sense in the end. Glad I stayed to hear the message. I laughed...it also touched my heart. What more could you ask for? See more Gabriela W. @TsumTsum May 27 I’m a devoted follower (I *am* following you!) of Josh Johnson. I love his observational depth interspersed with unexpected witty or ludicrous interpretations. I also love his humility, humanity, and authenticity. But in Symphony those traits were muffled by his effort to do something different and something that would land as explicitly “special”. The musical tangents and the wardrobe (although I *love* that jacket) all felt like he was trying too hard to be something else and, as a result, didn’t let his own authentic best shine through. Still, I love Josh. He always leaves me with a desire to hug him and say “thank you, thank you, for reminding me how special life and humanity truly are.” I feel that Symphony somehow felt short; I still wanted to hug him but this time to say “good try, sweetie.” See more Joanna T. @jmtanner May 23 This wasn’t as funny as I expected. I love his releases on YouTube and this wasn’t as good as those. Still love him, though! See more Read all reviews
