A humorous, melancholy look at a suburban community in Long Island whose characters include lonely housewives, frustrated teachers, and aspiring actresses, with wonderful performances by Edie Falco, Barbara Barrie and Madeline Kahn in her last role. Go to Full Review

Math E 04/08/2024 I'm reminded of this movie every eclipse. I saw it in 2000 and it's still on my mind. Awesome, so creative! A good night would be to watch this and the math movie Pi. See more 11/02/2015 slow but watchable indie See more 01/18/2014 Lyrical...funny....poetic....surreal. See more 01/07/2012 Few movies have produced such a lasting and sharp ambivalence in me. The supporting cast in this piece-Madeline Kahn, Bob Dishy, Barbara Barrie, et al.-are all wonderful actors doing exquisite work with a script whose tightrope walk between suburban familiar and psychotic dreamstate keeps us riveted to the screen. And then we cut away to the principals and the movie goes to hell. Goes directly to hell. Does not pass Go. Does not collect $200. Much as I adore Edie Falco-want to bear Edie Falco's children, want to give Edie Falco multiple medals for the extraordinary achievement of being Edie Falco-she's fighting a losing battle here in trying to overcome the OMG embarrassing autobiographical material Mendelsohn has provided her. While we can be grateful to whoever served as the model for the character Judy Berlin in Mendelsohn's life and thank her for all she taught him on that train platform, we must begrudge her for withholding the most crucial lesson: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEMPT TO SHOW OFF THIS BIT OF PERSONAL GROWTH IN ONE OF YOUR MOVIES. See more 04/28/2010 Dreamland on Long Island. Pretty fantastic. Madeline Kahn's final film. See more 02/16/2010 Decent but inconsistent. See more Read all reviews
