JULIA tells the story of the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. Using never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge, mouth-watering food cinematography, the film traces Julia Child's surprising path, from her struggles to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961) which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date, to her empowering story of a woman who found fame in her 50s, and her calling as an unlikely television sensation.

Kevin Maher Times (UK) A warm and affectionate project that adores its subject and serves as cinematic comfort food. Rated: 3/5 Sep 20, 2022 Full Review Danny Leigh Financial Times A robust documentary portrait of the late TV chef from directors Julie Cohen and Betsy West. Rated: 3/5 Apr 7, 2022 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Feels like a redundant tribute, with something very indulgent about the “foodie” rhapsodising. Rated: 2/5 Apr 7, 2022 Full Review Ayelet Dekel Midnight East abundant footage of Julia Child and her extravagantly distinctive voice, impressive stature (6’3”), and irresistible joie de vivre… the documentary, is just as fascinating, inspirational and fun as Julia Child. Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) The show is a ton of fun, and while we know her show-within-a-show becomes a huge success, there are still plenty of stakes to hold us, with Julia fighting male institutions the whole way. Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Zoë Rose Bryant Next Best Picture While it doesn't always dig quite as deep in Child's life as one may wish, Julia is nevertheless charming cinematic comfort food that is sure to still move many fans of the famed cooking idol.
