Patrick M On the surface, a romance between an ambitious young woman and a war damaged man, but on a deeper level the film explores the age old question of whether to stay or go when either choice could cost you everything. The film is sadly prescient, foretelling the horrible fate of Ukraine a few years before the broader Russian invasion. Knowledge of Ukrainian history will help give the film deeper meaning, but such knowledge is not essential. You'll still be moved by the beauty and sadness of Julia Blue.
