Audience Member "It was a trap, Robert. They set it for us!" Oil prospectors exploring the P.I. are set upon by a local cannibal tribe. One is captured and caged in the Filipino cannibals' cave where he is poked, prodded, molested, and tortured for days. He escapes with a cannibal girl who seems to be infatuated with him only to discover another lost oil prospector. Language barriers prevent the prospectors from properly communicating with the Filipina, so the trio wander the jungle full of terrors (poisonous mushrooms, venomous snakes, crocodiles, a cannibal tribe in pursuit, traps, etc) looking for a way back to civilization. The cannibal tribe are especially pissed at their girl helping the outsiders and look to get revenge as they best know. This was Deodato's first of his three jungle-cannibal horror films (the others being "Cannibal Holocaust" and "Cut and Run"), though not the very first jungle-cannibal horror, that would be 1972's "Man from Deep River". It is chock full of happy music where it doesn't belong. Absolutely horrific and with all the tropes you expect in this sort of film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Liam K Ruggero Deodato who also did cannibal holocaust knocked it out of the park with this one the violence is shocking and lots of familiar faces from man from the deep river this one is easily the second best cannibal film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/21 Full Review Audience Member A very violent, disturbing but honest film of the ways of the natives in the jungle. Please do not let children watch. Its more for an audience of age 18 & up. Lots of gore!!! I still liked it but was shocked by what I saw. Never will they be able to top this movie, I'll remember it always. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review delysid d this might be crap, i dont care i love those old cannibal movies Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/02/18 Full Review Audience Member Not that great as other films in the same genre. It is a survival flick as others have noted. It's an alright watch for one time. [Mild Spoilers] Wish rob had taken her back to the states. She started to care for him but he didn't! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member For a 70's Italian cannibal flick this is OK. The story is decent, the main protagonist is good up to a point. The practical effects were really well done overall. There were a few let downs though.. Robert uses the native woman to help him escape. Then he rapes her (for no reason) then she decides to help him?!? Then she gets killed by the tribe (in a really great scene at the bbq pit) because she helped him, when she didn't have any choice? The next flaw is the perfectly manicured lawn that is the runway. In the middle of a cannibal infested jungle...yeah sure. And lastly...all of the native woman were perfectly manicured and had finely shaped eyebrows, and no armpit hair. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
